Tomorrow is Pippin's big OP and I am ever so worried. I've have lots of dogs who needed OP's from OCD to Wobbler's to relatively "easy" things like cherry eye or entropia. I was worried then as well but successfully managed to emotionally detach myself. But the little clown has really conquered my heart despite the fact that I am none too keen on little fluffy doglets. Depsite his blindness he is the funnies little pup I've ever had here and my own APBT runs for the hills when he sees him coming, sharp puppy teeth and all that :o). I suppose I am just trying to kind of release my tension by posting here but he is only a teeny pup and the OP is severe..

Thinking of you it's never easy to sit at home and wait for news.

Just been looking at his photo's on your other post, what a cutie. I dare say due to his disability you have an even stronger maternal instinct towards him, even more so than your other dogs, we just tend to do that.

But you know he is in no more danger than any other op and the possible effect of a general anaesthetic, he'll be fine.

I do hope that all goes well.  I understand how you feel.  It's never easy.

Thank you all so much!! I was really worried about this little mite!!Little Pippin went in at 10:30 this morning and I collected him at 6pm. Oh my, his little face is now so unusual looking with his eyelids stitched shut . But it's the best for him in the long run. But he's a fighter and I've just settled him down in his crate after he PLAYED in the kitchen for about an hour! Dogs are amazing, I would be in bed for months after an OP like hat! Now we need to wait and see, he's on antibiotics and painkillers and hopefully no infection will set in. Again, thank you all so much for your compassion, I was going out of my mind all day!

Ahh, bless him. I take it he had to have his eyes removed? My sisters boxer had to have 1 eye removed as a 9 week old puppy (infection caused by a cat scratch ), it did look vey noticable to start with, especially being that she is white, but once it all healed up it looks fine. Peope that don't know her notice that she has an eye missing, but to the rest of us she looks like 'normal' Pip

He's had both eyes removed, as they were tiny and non-functional which was the reason why he was dumped on me. I had a thread about it in the health section, it's called Microphthalmia.

He snoring in his soft crate now (I got him a soft crate as I was worried he'd get caught with the buster collar in a normal crate). My other dogs are listening to him breathe and they lie around the crate to watch him.

I'm so very pleased for you.  I know that he will do just fine, having had a blind dog myself.  I've actually had 3 with only one eye.  Have one now!

You will be so surprised when you see how fast he progresses.  I have never, ever regretted keeping a blind dog.  And apart from the fact that people will obviously see that he has no eyes, thay will actually wonder how he does so well.  People used to doubt me when I said mine was blind.  One eye removed, and he went blind in the one remaining eye. 

I wish you all the very best with him - you won't regret a thing. 

So pleased he seems ok now keep us informed.

A friends Welsh Springer in alter life had both eyes removed due to Glaucoma which was just an emerging condition in the breed at the time.

I was amazed to see her doing Obedience in competition at one of our Exemption shows, including send away and retrieves. 

She looked like she was sleepwalking with both eyes shut.

I am sure he will be up and acting hs normal self sooner than you think.

Pippin is amazing, he bounced back from this big OP and he is his happy and cheery self again, he makes me smile every five minutes because of the way he gets around things. I had all the bowls washed and on the sink for drying and I gave him his food out of a low pan with a handle. And within 5 seconds he sat down and started barking and kept coming to me and back to the pan. The handle bothered him and he wouldn't touch his food until I put it in a regular bowl WITHOUT a handle again. He sure knows his mind and he hates changes. I had visitors today and they swore he was partially sighted until they saw his face close up. And here are a few pics I took of him today:

I found that, as the hair over the missing eyes grew, it just looked as if the eyes were hidden.  Certainly, with my Toy Poodle, the lady that clipped him, just left it curly over the socket, and it wasn't glaringly obvious.

I am so glad that things are progressing so well.

I'm so glad little Pippin came through his op OK. His story really has touched my heart - and I love your little snippets of info and stories about him, he sounds like such a great character, and looks so cute and 'cuddleable' too
