Help

Yet again, my latest hoover has packed up. I ask such a lot of a cleaner, with 2 longcoat shepherds, who bring in most of the mud and leaves of the local parks and our garden.

Years ago I had a Dyson DC01 and loved it. Later got a Dyson Animal and the beater bar was flat and twisted, and all their long hair just wrapped around it - nightmare. So i've just wrecked the cheapie Electrolux Hi Light I had (which was pretty good actually).

Am considering a Dyson again, but anyone got any personal recommendations before I spend all my money??

I have two GSD's and a Rotty, I have a Miele 'Cat & Dog', great hoover, sometimes the hairs get stuck on the hard floor attachment but the carpet attachment is great for getting the hairs up.  The bags are expensive tho, around £10.00 for a box of 4 and one bag lasts me a month if I am lucky, 2 weeks if its moulting time! I did have a Dyson DC01 as my first hoover before my first dog and then replaced it with a Dyson Animal - very disappointed, it was very very loud, heavy and didnt pick up that well. 

My choice if I needed another hoover would be another Miele - shame they don't do a bagless one tho.

I'd recommend a good old fashioned Henry for the simple reason that they just don't clog and are so reliable.I've had one in my salon for nearly 9 years(and it wasn't new when I got it)and it copes with huge amounts of hair daily.

I invested in a miele recently and now wouldn't go back.  Amazing pick up, almost removes the need to mop the floors as it picks up so much dust and dirt off the  hard floors.

I have 2 dysons one up one down and a longhaired shep. I think they are great the dyson I mean the shepherd is obviously great LoL, have never tried a miele but heard good things a bit pricer I think

I assume you have carpets not hard floors

I have beardies full coated , couldnt live without my dyson!

Miele Cat and Dog for me too!   Really does well clearing up after my two Beardie girls.

Believe it or not, I find that a RUBBER BRUSH picks up far more hair from carpet and tiled/wooden laminate floors than any vacuum cleaner!

A quick once-over with the brush first to get the hair up, then dyson to get the rest of the (ingrained) mud off carpets

Actually, small rubber brush is also good to use to groom aussies & labs!

I really want an upright (am too lazy for the pull along type !)

I looked at the Miele, but the bags put me off.

I do the rubber brush trick on the stairs, and its marvellous, but I couldn't find the energy to do all my carpets (yes house is carpeted).

What dyson models do you have, and do they have a round beater bar (not the flat twisted one)? Thanks, am def leaning toward the dyson.

I have 2 but they are old an 04 which is the upstair hoover and an 07 downstairs.
( also have a spare electrolux cylinder which I loathe)

Dyson!!!!I have a dyson O2 bought 13 years ago.Has seen 2 gsd,1 mastiff 4 mals and 2 CED pups or and a JRT as well as 2 kids.Various new parts but all came under cover which I still have which costs just a few pounds a year.

Dyson DC01 and still going strong its my second and I have a dyson had held for the car (hairs in the car) hairs as well.

It's a bit noisy but it copes with my 3 GSDS including a very heavy coated black and my Working Cocker fine.

I have used an Oreck for the last 20 years (OK, I'm on my second one now).  I've always had a house full of animals and the Oreck is really good at picking up all the hairs.  I now have tiled floors so the Oreck only gets used in the winter when the rugs are down.  It's very lightweight, does a good job, but it doesn't have attachments for stairs, sofas etc.  You have to get a separate little vacuum cleaner for that.

if you want to try a dyson have a look at a recon on ebay they are really good prices I bought a dc01  for £35.00 and its fine after the motor in my other one died after 10years  Also have the lime green dyson not sure of the model. I like the fact that they are able to be repaired for about £40.00 if needed all parts included and the cylinder and filters etc are washable and easy to empty. The seem to do an excellent job with a heavily moulting longhaired gsd whoose fur comes out in clumps atm

I'm fed up with my Dyson (DC08), I seem to spend more time unclogging the motorised brush bar than hoovering. With tiles on the ground floor & rubber backed mats everywhere I find I get more up off the mats with an old slicker brush & just use the nozzle for edges & corners. Will consider a Henry next time.

funny how different people's experiences are maybe its partly the type of flooring we have and maybe different dogs fur behaves differently. I very rarely have to unclog mine and its not usually dog hair

Ebony is doing great.  Really coming into her own this year at agilty and growing in confidence every day.  We just got a new pup too - a working cocker!

What is the best way for getting rid of dog hairs on car seats?
We do have covers but being staffords they make great fun in tearing it up either there or on the way back and it generally gets moved when they move no matter how much I tuck it in so their fur is still all over the place.
The car is black and we have a white dog and a brindle one...any ideas before my oh goes mad from exposure to dog hair on his seats LOL

Ive even resorted to using cellotape to try and tempt it off!

Carpet or hard floor?  If hard floors I'd suggest Henry as you don't need a bag everything just goes in the plastic washable base.  The hairs come off the brushes quite easily.  There's not much to clog up with a Henry.  I use it in the kennels & it manages to clear up straw & labrador hair as well as mud & the occasional chewed vet bed

My SIL loves her Dyson: maybe the fact she has no pets & pays someone to use it has a bearing.

What is the best way for getting rid of dog hairs on car seats?

I have a pink thing like a squeegee that I bought in PAH and it is amazing for getting dog hair off.  It only cost about £5.  In the abscence of this try a damp rubber glove to gather the hair.

Pretty much any vacuum will do if you keep the muddy hair outdoors to start with   Invest in a blaster, rinse or hose their muddy bits outdoors or in the garage etc and then blast it all out - result, clean carpets that are not only mud free but hair, dust and dander free too.

Wouldn't be without mine - I now go through vacuum cleaners every 4/5 years rather than annually and dusting around the home is once a week at most rather than twice daily

VAX make there own pet adapted hoover ideal for  pet hair, mud etc, picks leonberger hair up brilliantly
