One of my dogs had a small growth that looked like a wart near the base of her tail (about the 8 o'clock) position is the best way to describe it. She continually licked it one night & it left a crater like hole so the vet cut it out & sent it off to a lab. As I haven't seen the vet who did the op since I don't know why he only put in internal stitches. Although she is wearing a buster collar 24/7 she either bumps the wound trying to get to it or knocks it on furniture, or stretches it when she squats for a poo.  After 4 days it was looking a bit bloody & opening up so on my 1st visit back another vet superglued it. After an hour it opened up again so she had another GA & external stitches put in. Now, even after being ultra careful the stitches look like they are giving way. The vet saw her yesterday & said it looks like it's healing inside but she may need to be re-stitched again!  The lab result still isn't back so we don't know if it is nasty. I put a melolin dressing on it to keep it clean but it doesn't stay on long. I'm beginning to think it wont ever heal! Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Yes, my girl had an op 2 weeks ago, stiches out at 10 days all looked healed, that evening after stitches out half the wound opened right up (about an inch and a half long), my girl hates the vets and has been through it lately and i am not wanting to put her through anymore, she is on AB's and the wound is being kept clean and dry it will heal on its own but will take many weeks. just have to wait for the skin to start to granulate over, just takes longer and will leave a big scar but she wont care about that and neither do i. :-)

She had an op years ago and the exact same thing happened, i did tell my vet this before he took out her stiches but he was sure it was fine...sometimes owners know their dogs best eh!

She is fine and happy so i will be leaving well alone.

I hope yours gets sorted soon

My girl was spayed in September. All was well for three weeks then, I think she did a big jump, and part of the scar opened. It was obviously external as inside looked "together" She was constantly licking it though so it wasnt healing so I just bathed it twice a day, put tea tree cream on it and put her in a T shirt so she couldnt get to it. It soon got better.
Love me, Love my dogs!!

I had trouble with a wound that kept bursting, the vets eventually ran out of skin :-(  So I was sent away with some dermisol cream(I think it was called this). Its marvellous stuff and little by little the hole got smaller and smaller and evetually diasappeared. I would never have believed it because it was quite a large site but its great!!

good to hear other experiences, thanks.
Update: yesterday the vet who did the original op cut away a bit more skin, cleaned it all up, put a drain in & re-stitched, looks like stronger thread! Also gave her different antibiotic. Hopefully this will sort it. Had the lab result back but was a bit technical for me to take in over the phone so will get a copy on Monday when the drain should come out. Not cancer, so that's a relief.
