Help
can anyone give me any idea how much is average charge for allergy testing. Xbreed is currently back on Predisolone due to flat itchy patches more than bumps. He had a course reducing over 6 weeks which cleared it. Off them for a week then it started to come back so more Pred.
Trouble is he put on enough weight in 6 weeks that he almost lost his waist, he's hound cross, and is constantly scavenging, climbing onto chairs etc in case there is anything remotly edible in reach.
He is on the same amount of Burns Pork and Potato - used to have JW or other Burns previously but always bit loose on them.
Vet thinks it is more likely to be contact/environment rather than food and said as piriton didn't help then Pred is only option.
Thanks, Chris

I had a York test for my itchy boy which was, I think, about £200.  He's now on monthy injections...

If it ever happened again there is a lot I'd do/try before starting the injection route but the York test was well worth it to get an idea of what causes his problems.  Ours too was environment not food (or dust mites thank goodness). HTH:)

I think the food and environmental allergy blood test (York test) was around £250 for my spaniel. The environmental blood test is reliable, the food one however is - although a good indication - not 100% reliable.

Has your vet considered a thyroid test?

It was £170 to get the environmental one done on our Gordon Setter, still waiting on the next part to desensitize her which I think is much more expensive though.

The yorktest my bitch had was around £200.00, remember before having the bloods taken, your dog must be steriod free for two weeks (approx!) or the results will not be accurate.  We abandoned the immuno therapy inj's after 18 months as they were not helping.  Atopica is an option which does not cause weight gain or steriod damage long term but is very expensive  - ok if you have insurance or if you are rich!

Allergy was positive to House Dust mites so she will always have it.

I used the Atopica for my westie. Would recomment it. Kept her free from scratching and more comfortable in her last years. Would not hesitate to use it again.
