Hundreds of dogs of all shapes and sizes have passed through my rescue and many of them loved pigs ears. Some have one demolished in 5 minutes other take hours or even days. But never have I seen anything like this. Pippin the blind Pom pup likes pigsears, no doubt, he spends hours chewing on them and playing with them. However, he has a curious "thing". He chews them into little round shapes likes this one:

It's about 3 inches in diameter. Once it has reached this size he loses all interest in it.

4 days ago I gave him this pigsear:

And it now looks like this:

He is by no means finished with is but the round shape can be clearly seen already. WHY would he do that??

I have no idea why!   But I am smiling at the thought that you did the right thing for him.   He is obviously a happy little tyke!

It is so nice to hear the follow ups on these stories that we all get interested in.  :-)
The hurrier I go - the behinder I get!

One of my dogs loves pigs ears, and loses interest once most of it's gone, and they look exactly like the ones in your pic, exactly! I think once it gets to that size it's harder for them to chew perhaps, and they're ready for a new one.
I don't think I've ever had a dog that has eaten an entire pig's ear, they always leave that last bit,i thought it was normal,LOL.

It's obviously some kind of sculpture :-D  Animal art can reach quite high prices you know, lol

Hehe, I could put the Pippin "dics" on EBAY ;-).

I had posted the pics on an Irish board and someone posted on it that their (adult) Pom does the same thing! They put it down to the dog having only a few teeth..

Once the sticky out bits have been chewed off it is probably harder to nibble. My GR demolishes anything like that in record time whereas my small feisty terrier is the most delicate eater ever - I suppose  he has to have some refinement in his normally full on approach to living :-)
