I am writing to see if i am missing something. I asked the other on here for a list of euro dog shows, which some kind members were good enough to answer. On looking through the list i came across the Euro dog show in Denmark in June 2010. On that site it has a 'how to get there' section. It states DFDS seaways now allow dogs on board there harwich to esbjerg crossing. This would be the preferred method of transport as the ferry gets in just 80 miles from the show location. Then on closer reading (on DFDS website) after bragging that it takes just 17 hours to get there, it states NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED IN THE CABINS. Please make sure dogs are safely left in vehicles with waterproof bedding, So are they honestly saying that they expect my dog to be caged up for 17 hours whilst doing it's business in the car?? If so i am disgusted.....and i'll just drive (using the eurostar). Thoughts please.

But even if dogs were allowed into the cabin, where would the dogs be expected to do their business? On the outside deck... I think not!

we looked into this route and with boarding etc dogs would be over 20 hours shut in car or the onboard kennels (which are just crates) think it is cruel so will be driving and having lots of stops.

Why not use the Harwich-hook of holland route and drive up to denmark?
It only takes about 6 hours and the ferry we have used had massive cage for the dog to travel in.
They did not allow dogs in cabins, only in the cages provided(not even in your car, as I believe a dog had been lost due to heatstroke).
We did do 28h ferry trip(Finland-germany) and they had a dog walking deck, so yes, it was outside they went to toilet.
But in this ferry dogs were allowed in the cabin and the cabin was very close to the dog deck so pleasant enough trip for all.

Harwich to Hoek van Holland ferry you can leave your dogs in the car, we travel this route on a regular basis and dogs are always ok.

Thats great to hear as I would think most dogs would be happier in their own car.
We travelled a year ago and then they did not allow dogs in the cars.
I was told this was because a dog had died(heat stroke) being left in the car so they no longer allow it...

Our dogs are happy in the car think they would get distressed being in strange surroundings, although I do like to do the night crossing as it is cooler but we have fans in the car that come on at certain temperatures and leave windows open.  The crew do go round checking on cars so always make sure that the sign for dogs on board is visable, think when the dog that died travelled the sign had come off the windscreen.

Yes I agree. Go the Harwich/Hook of Holland route ( done it loads of times with dogs.) Then drive up to Denmark. I've also done the route to Esberg (without dogs) and it does seem to take forever to get there.
