Alfie had the Kennel Cough vaccine on 30th October and started with symptoms on 5th November. He is on antibiotics from the vet and started them on 6th November. I know this is a side effect of the vaccine but does anyone have any idea how long it should take clear up once he has started the antibiotics?? He has snotty nose, barking cough and sounds like he is constantly wanting to throw up!.
sorry no but poor alfie hope he gets better soon. Just when you thought you were doing the best thing what does the vet say ?

its usually a self limiting condition that lasts a week or less even with out treatment, if he has some secondary infection that should clear up fairly quickly if hes on the right antibiotic , the drug of choice here is usually tribrissen
He has been given Cephorum by the vets. Is it contageous if it appears after vaccine?? Im worried he is supposed to go into kennels Thursday and im worried they wont accept him. We have two weeks booked in America for my sisters wedding and pannicking alittle now! ( friend was supposed to have him but let me down at the last minute hence late vaccine )

I dont want to worry you but if my memory serves me correctly, when mine went into kennels a couple of years ago they had to have the kennel cough vaccine 2 weeks before going in. It may have changed or I may have that wrong. Someone will probably be able to clarify that. I hope it all works out for you.

He will have had the vaccine just two weeks but am worried if they will accept him with symptoms, i have a horrible feeling the answer is no
my vet told me the reason why dogs have to have the kennel cough vaccine 10-14 days before they go into kennels is because they don't want coughing dogs going in so it might be best to ring around & ask?
Sadly the KC as a result of vaccine is exactly as KC caught otherwise. Bummer, I know a few people whose dogs have had the vaccine and then promptly come down with it, but then it is live.
Bear in mind that dogs are still contagious even when their symptoms of cough, runny nose stop.
Hope he gets better soon.
Hi , don't know about the kennels you use but the ones where I work won't accept any dog showing kennel cough symptoms - esp if they're on antibiotics for it. The potential risk to passing it on the the others would be too high.
Hope you get it all sorted before your holiday though
Thanks everyone. I contacted the vets yesterday and they changed his antibiotics and he is much better today

Another friend has offered to look after him ( hasnt got dogs but used to ) so we are free to go away!!! So paid all that money for injections and it was that what prevented me from using the kennels after all!! Thanks for all your comments
