my female rott is coming up for three in december.we regularly buy them bones(uncooked obviously) and pigs ears ect.anyways just now she was laying in front of the tv and the remote wouldnt work cos shes right in the way of the red button,so my OH asked her to move which she ignored and carried on chewing away.he got up and picked up her pigs ear and moved it out of the way knowing she will follow.
the thing is i watched him do this and she lowered her head and covered the pigs ear and gave him eyes tht i certainly dont ever wanna see again.
she let him have the pigs ear but you could tell she didnt want him to.

i stopped giving her pigs ears or bones a long time ago cos she used to just guard them would lay next to them and not touch it.but she recently sat in front of me and asked nicely for a treat which i gave her and she was happy to eat it.so ive now started giving her them again.she wont run into a corner and hide with it like shes protecting it she is happy to eat around the other dogs but why bury her head like this
and how best do i deal with this behaviour?

I'd be inclined to given treats like this in a controlled space.  I do in fact; one takes his outside and the other will eat on his bed.  They might sometimes eat them in the utility room but neither of them is allowed to bring them over the threshold of the kitchen.  They aren't overly possessive about food or toys but to be fair we've taught them how to handle them so perhaps it's a bit of nature and nurture!

Your girl is presumably unwilling to give up her treat so I'd just put her in a space, and feed her at a time when there is no need to interfere with her or move her.  The big stuff can be munged for hours and is a bit of a pain with a possessive or even just a slow dog.  I have one that takes forever so I wait until he's busy with something else and just bag it for another day.  If you wish to reward good behaviour choose something small that can be given on the spot and eaten immediately.

lol i love it.my boy tends to come and sit right in front of me and stare at me to go out.he gives me tho's babies eyes.its so lovely.and no not daft lol

she's not possessive with anything really just wont eat a bone sometimes will keep it for later,there is always plenty to go round and never gets it taken off her so cant see why shes doin it.thanx for advise i shall just put her in the garden in future shame u have to do that tho my lot know if they tap the small door next to the cabinet theres treats in there,good job its locked or no doubt she'd be opening that as well as the back door (rolleyes\)lol

Just to add to dogs a  babes advice, if you do ever need her to move while she has a treat it's best to offer her something as a swap or to tempt her away with (ie get her to move where you want her to for a peice of chicken/high value treat, then give her the pigs ear back), rather than remove her treat and get her to follow that.

Or you could teach her how to give up chews etc without a problem. By teaching her to swap and teaching her that people coming near hear and ultimately take things off of her is a great thing, you can make it safer for everyone! I do accept guarding against other dogs, but I do not accept it against people (or at least against me and my OH), so I teach them very quickly that it is ok for us to touch their stuff. (I never take anything away but I do move it at times).

hmm good points shall start swapping things then.wont be a problem she likes attention so this should be fun for her!
Oh and shes on medication at the moment and the nut nut actually likes the tablets LOL will sit and beg for em too!!
ill do this when she has her tablets twice  day lol.
