Sorry if this does not read very nice...but..last night my welsh springer was very interested in her bottom. When I investigated she had licked and nibbled a hot spot which I bathed with Hibiscrub and applied Fuciderm. As I did this I noticed that on her anus which is usually all pink was a patch of black ish skin. It was not protruding out of her and was not raised nor did it look sore. I took her to the vet today and he examined her and checked her anal sacs which were fine and said he was not concerned about the black which was not sinister and suggested that it was pigmentation and not to be worried. I should continue the treatment for the sore area around the anus/tail. Well thats all very well for him to say but I would really like to know what it is and what caused it. Do any of you have any experience of this type of thing or suggestions.

Thanks

The same thing occured with my female,at age two...a black mark in the same area...it was  pigmentation. She also got a black spot on her tongue at about the same time. dont worry,if the vet concurs,it sounds like it is just the skin maturing and adding pigment.

Sounds like pigmentation - think it would be safe to say to trust your vet on this one. :-)
Who cares about a few dog hairs!
