Previous Next Up Topic Dog Boards / General / Silver Good Citizen Award - question collars?

Can anyone tell me if your dog is allowed to wear a head collar for this test? I have looked on the KC website, but can't find the answer. Went training last week for it & trainer says I can't use one. I have always used one, as I have a bad back.

I dont think you are allowed to use them in any of the tests.  The idea being i suppose that your dog is supposed to walk on a lose lead so shouldnt need to be wearing one.
finally got my 5th silver 7 ..... 2 and a half stone off, only 8lbs to goal ... bring it on !

Thanks, isn't a problem obedience training on the field, but take him on a walk, if another dog is in front, different story!

I use them as a precaution when out, if the boys see a dog they dont like then I struggle holding onto both without a headcollar.

I was told by the Kennel Club that someone with a disability is allowed to use a halti or similar whilst doing the tests.

I have a reply from the kennel club. I am surprised that a full check is allowed, I assume this mean choke chain?

Thank you for your email. The rules are fully explained in the Good
Citizen Guideline book. If you are a member of a club they will have a
copy of this which should be available to members at all times. A collar
and lead must be worn for every award level. This maybe flat collar,
half check or full check providing it is suitable for that dog and it is
used and fitted correctly. During testing sessions, the examiner should
satisfy themselves that when a halti or head collar is removed, the dog
will remain under control. This applies to all exercises. Therefore, if
an examiner requests that a student performs the entire test without the
dog wearing this equipment, this must be adhered to.

When my GSD bitch did her Silver and Gold last October there was a dog there wearing a halti in the silver test and it passed. Suppose it can depend on the examiner.
Love is... 2 GSD's & a Rottweiler
