Ok you guys my iron has packed up (again!) I have a morphy richards steam generator one and this is the third of this type I have had over about 4 years. Need to go out and get a new iron asap  what do you all use not even sure if the steam generator types are worth the money but do need something that is easy to use and allows me to produce good easy crease free clothes and preferrably lasts a bit longer than the others £80.00 every 18months isn't good.

Advice please
Thanks

Having always used expensive irons, I recently had my last one pack up.  I decided that an £80 iron was going to be out of the question, but had never bought a cheap one.  Until a friend at work looked shock to hear how much I thought was normal to spend on an iron.

I am now using a light weight steam iron that can be replaced every year if need be!  Somerfield own make - a fiver!!!!!!!

I was wondering about that idea Jean its just that there is soooo much ironing in this household and want to get through it asap as it it takes about 4 hours a week

I don't think that you've got anything to lose by trying the idea though!  I was amazed at the suggestion at first, but only because I had never looked at unknown makes before.  I have since found out that Tesco, Sainsbury's etc all do their own makes - it was just that I had never even considered it.

We always buy own brand electrics like that now. We buy Tesco/Asda kettles/toasters, for £5 and tbh some of them have lasted longer than the expensive branded ones. :-)  So much stuff today is just throw away prices.  It seems nothing is built to last.

I've got a Tefal Pro Express steam Generator - got it at Costco so it was half the price of Argos :-D . I've had it for 3 years now and like you have loads of ironing every week but this one cut it down from 4 hours to 3 every week - fab :-D

Not sure which one i purchased last year, but has steam and when i try and iron shirts before the steam is ready it doesn't get them out very readily at all.
The brand i will get for you a bit later, but its a well known brand either Tefal, MR etc

That you do the ironing while you watch the football. :-) You'll be enjoying the match so much that the noise of the steam won't bother you. Make sure that you do it properly though!

It's a bit late but I always get Rowenta irons, they keep going for a long time unless you drop them.  I have their steam generator and it's brill.

I've just got a Morphy Richards steam iron, £19.99 from Tesco, only used it once so far but it's great. So that is a possible 'in-between' solution, a little more expensive than the own-brand irons, but lots cheaper than £80.

I've always bought tefal, my Mum always has them, and I like an iron that isn't too lightweight....have had current one over 6 years!! Am not sure if it's because I always use the scented ironing water as opposed to tap water??? Ok so I'm spending money on that but if it makes my iron last a few more years.........
Never liked the steam generators, I guess I'm a bit old-fashioned as I tend to stick with what I know and not try new gadgets....
