So glad she is on the mend, what a relief for you,as you know dogs usually pant when either too warm or in pain, maybe the stiches  were causing her discomfort .

Thanks Sheila,

Yes i think the stiches were causing her soreness as a couple were completely embedded, once i got them out she seemed alot better the next day and has been very content all day today so hopefully we have turned the corner. x

Hi Jill,

Bella is suffering alot from pain in the stump, she keeps moving it up and down and this morning it was shaking, like when you lean on a nerve, i spoke to my vet who said that everything looks and feels fine so it seems that she has stump pain and that he would expect it to resolve over time.

I feel awful now though as i took the leg off to cure the pain but she is just as painful without it at the moment, she is happy to go out and is eating well but she just randomly cries out which is really upsetting.

I am praying that her pain will subside like Archie's did, she is on metacam at the moment and i have tramodol for if i think she is very unhappy.

She was fab last week so it is just odd that this has only started since monday, with each day being different in the degree of pain she seems to be having :-(

I feel helpless right now.

Bless her, but don't worry I'm sure we would be in pain for a while if we had a arm off too! Tramadol can make you sick so only use if you think she defo needs it. I took the human version once for a tooth abcess and that was a very very bad day for me, plus i was travelling home from visiting family which made it worse. She could have some nerve issues but I think time will tell. Have a jolly Christmas with her and make sure she is at the table for some turkey. Hopefully your other pups don't come early and you can relax xx

Mandy

I know this part is soo hard, I found with Archie any damp weather he needed his pain meds upped a bit.  Speak to your vet and ask him about the dosage of Tramadol, as I know I was told he could have 3 times the recommended dose.  i kept him pretty doped up for a few weeks after his amp which seemed to help.  The trammadol works quite quickly so give her some and see if it helps.

She will start to feel better soon!  i know it is soo hard when they start crying out and you can't seem to do anything or work out why they suddenly cry!

I know I found this part soo hard as from everything I had read online, no-one had mentioned the phantom pain.  it wasn't until I spoke to a friend who was ex forces who told me about some mates who had experienced the phantom pain that I realised what was going on.

Keep your chin up girl, the pair of you will get there
