My young weimaraner bitch was spayed a few days ago and is under instruction to stay calm and no leaping arround. lead walks only.

can anyone please tell me how to get this?
she is going mad and so are we.
she is used to fair amount of fast free running exersise and is now so hysterical about wanting it that lead walks are out of question as is leaping about madly at slightest hint anyone going out.

her wound is healing nicely we think but she is very sore and very itchy and can't get comfy.
we are spending all day trying to keep her calm and keep her from pulling stitches out.
she doesn't want chews, is being so violent with toys i'm worried she will do injury as is leaping after so had to take away. barking at everything and is throwing almighty strop.

have tried to do bit of indoor training but shes turning nose up at tipbits and just getting over excited-then upset as hurts her belly.

anyone got any failsafe ideas for her?  current method is fire on full to send her to sleep but it doesn't last long!!!
shes a good dog normally -lively yes-but this is really getting a bit much and I am worried she is going to hurt herself.

The best thing I found to do was to take them out, on the lead, but with an extra person to hold the collar to control them firmly so that they walk or trot with you. You really need to be firm and determined, but a daily outing helps get rid of the 'stir-crazy' feeling.

I had a Flattie pup to keep calm for 12 weeks post knee op.........so I can fully empathise. I tried to keep him occupied by giving him trips in the car, taking him into the garden to watch the world go by, all in his cage. Massaging his head and back seemed to calm him but it was very difficult especially with him trying to play with the others at the slightest opportunity.
Walks on lead turned into pulling matches and I couldn't be too rough on him as I didn't want to risk twisting his leg.
Time passes though and you will get through it.
The Flattie way is the fun way!

thank you both.
still counting days!  her wound is clean and dry so just got to try and get through it.
My last dog had a few major surgeries and never ever behaved like this but poor Nell has zero bordem threshold and zero pain threshold but theres not fat lot can do about it.  I know shes uncomfortable but everything looks like healing cleanly so can't really see what can do to make her feel better. she had pain meds for a few days but I can't see any difference in attitude with or without them so can't see much point in drugging her further.
