Our 12 month old has got a large fluid like lump between shoulder blades. Not related to vaccines or anything like that. I think its trauma due to rough play with her brother. Possibly haematoma? Anyone any experience of this. Not botheing her but only spotted it yesterday. Will get it checked by Vet but just wondered if anyone had come across it before.

I had one on one of my Beardie girls some years ago.  It wasn't a haemotoma, and the vet couldn't draw anything off it.  As it was "moveable" he said to leave it if it didn't bother her.

It started to grow a year later, and I had it removed then.  The vet said it could return, but after 5 years I don't think it will now.

Sorry, just to add, this was between the shoulder blades too.

Thanks Jean. Did it appear suddenly or grow slowly in size. This came pretty much overnight and is  quite large. About the size of a large cupped mushroomn. have to take an oldie to vets on Wednesday so will check her out then,

is there any evidence of a scratch or anything near it?? Just came back off hols and Leah had been to stay with her boy and 2 other dogs, she has a similar lump on her neck and as she does have some fatty lumps I always palpate for signs of tenderness etc, but this one was a) a bit tender, and b) had a small scratch on top...so I just think it's from playing :-)

my other thought would be reaction to injection re location, but as you say not then that's ruled out!

I personally would monitor for a couple of days, if it's just a bruise it will start to go down, if not then a trip to the vet might put your mind at rest :-)

I have had similar and it was just a haematoma. I just gave Arnica and it went down within a week. BTW it was through rough play with the others.
The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue.

Hi Sue

I don't think this one was due to an injury and although it seemed to come up out of nowhere, and appeared to be around the size that you're describing, I have to say that once it started to grow, the decision to remove it came easy.   But you could tell that it wasn't "attached" if you know what I mean.  As in a tumour.

Hi ,
this is the first time I am answering on this board
Hope all will be ok but from very recent and very sad experience I would say be very careful with any kind of lump .
my little boy had a soft lump on his back and puss cold be drawn from it , it was considered nothing to worry about .
a short time later he was of colour , quieter than usual and didn't eat his dinner that day .Brought him to the Vet the following morning to find a lot of smaller lumps on his neck , some of which burst and puss could be expressed .He was kept in and got IV treatment for several days , he was unable to relieve himself and had to be catheterized . He picked up and I could take him home after 3 days .
He ate and drank again , was bright and alert although quiet .
Again he got worth although on heavy medication , over the next 2 days .... back to the Vets , to find a lot more lumps everywhere ...
it turned out he was in agony , loosing weight at a frightening rate , being a shadow of himself , may lump could be felt internal now too .
After much discussion we decided to PTS , as he did not respond to any of the treatments and did suffer greatly ...
Had samples taken and waiting on results ...
All of this developed in less than a week , on a young and previously healthy dog , that had never been sick ....

Just to update, the lump has all but gone now and I am so proud to say that my lovely girl won the CAC and BOB AND GROUP 2 at the All Winners Show in Amsterdam on Sunday
