Along with lots of wet weather come wet feet. One of my boys has quite hairy feet and today I noticed he was paying them far too much attention. I had a look and the long hair in his feet were not allowing them to dry properly and he has in both front feet what looks like hot spots between the pads. I clipped the hair from all four feet and they all have it to some degree. The front two are the worst. One of the front feet is starting to swell a bit with all his licking. So if he is still at it tomorrow I will get him a cone so he can't lick.  Apart from the licking they don't appear too sore (he is walking fine)...

Just wanted to say if your pooch has lots of hair on their feet....please have a look to see if the wet weather is causing any problems deep in between the pads.

Cheers

Good reminder :-)

I've always kept hair around and between pads/toes to a minimum - gress seeds are a danger in the spring/summer months and as you've found mud (also snow/ice) a potential problem in bad weather and throughout winter.

As an aside, it's amazing how many exhibitors go to great lengths to spruce up and keep perfect body coat for shows yet fail abysmally in legs and feet - especially when lack of proper care can lead to problems

regards, Teri

Big man has been limping more and more today....:-( vet was coming to work today and I got her to look at his feet. He has moist dermatitis and has to go on antibiotic Ceporex and have washes with hibiscrub and get fusiderm cream on both front feet for at least a week. He is supposed to go to a show on Saturday....hope he feels better in time as he is starting to enjoy going...

Can he be shown if he is on antibiotics? Is it against the rules? ( I obviously wont take him if he is not fit....but was just wondering)
