Hi

Can't decide what type of whelping box to go for, whether to persuade my OH to make a wooden one, or to buy either a cardboard or plastic type one.  The question I have about the plastic sort is how scratch resistant are they, I am a bit concerned that if it gets really scratched then even if it is disinfected the scratch marks could still harbour germs.  All advice gratefully received.

Many thanks

I've got two, one is a Snowsilk the other a Link-a-bord, both white upvc, out of the two I much prefer the Snowsilk one but they are very expensive, neither of them have scratched I take them out to my patio and pressure was them to keep them clean.

Probably every other day, I give it a good clean with disinfectant, pups in a warm box at the side with mum watching me closely.....lol.

I use a plastic whelping box, its easy to take apart and store when you arent using them and very easy to keep clean. I just give ours a wipe round with dettol once a day when we have pups. its very hard wearing and doesnt scratch or anything.

I use a plastic one now from a company called Warwick whelping boxes , they come with a long  guarantee and they can make any size you ask. They are expensive but having used a wooden box in the past I wouldn't use anything but the plastic box now. They are so easy to clean and it gives peace of mind that they are properly disinfected.
