Intesested in forum members views as to the best milk replacement. There seem to be so may alternatives now

Welpi, Lactol, Royal Canin, Nutrolac to name a few. Even heard of Shepherdess Lamb replacement milk being used.

I have used Skinners puppy milk, reasonably priced, but I liked Litterlac better and Nutrolac best of all.

I like my pups to stay on a bit of milk past weaning and found they got loose on the skinners after 6 or 7 weeks of age.

Not so with Litterlac, but like Nutrolac because it is formulated from Goats milk rather than cows, and goats is less like to cause intolerance than cows.

Have used Welpi and Lactol before, but was thinking of using Nutrolac next time, as I then move onto diluted goats milk for convenience (from Asda) and advise new owners to use that as a treat as opposed to cow's milk. I have heard good things about Royal Canin however and its datasheet makes specific reference as to how easy it is to dissolve. How is Nutrolac on dissolving all the powder?

I found it absolutely fine be it with warm or cold water (boiled of course)

Have always used Litterlac, but with our last litter used Royal Canin, which I found to be a lot better, pups had nice firm poo's, not too firm and definitely not at all loose, the pups gained weight nice and evenly too.  So personally we will use it again.  Really easy to mix.

Does it only come is such small quantities (400g), I usually get through 2.5kg or even 5kg.

If your a registered breeder with Royal Canin you can buy it direct a 2.5kg tub, arrives next day.

I use a similar home made mix, a small tin or Carnation mixed wiht and equal quantity of boiled, cooled water, and the yolk (no white at all) of an egg, all mixed well together.  Have hand reared/supplement fed many pups on this with great success.

I let my bitche sfinish up any left overs, as I make up a new batch every 24 hours, (keep in in a closed jug in the fridge between feeds).  But pre & post whelping I give my bitches Goats Milk as a calcium boost, on top of feeding a complete puppy food (to those who will eat complete).
