You would enter him in the lowest class he qualifies for which is Junior.  Then depending if the breed is one with large entires at championship shows you could enter him in a second breed class.

If he has not one any award that counts towards the title of champion (adult) then he could go into Post Graduate class next.

If he has won such an award but less than three of these then eh could go in Limit class.

If he has won 3 then eh can only go in the Open class after he leaves age classes.

I personally would also enter a stakes class if there is one such as Junior stakes or Open stakes.

These get you seen by the group level judges who are usually the ones that judge these.

Your too late to enter any championship shows for this year, so I suggest entering some Open shows, and you still have time to enter Manchester Championship (entries close first week of December).  Also I suggest you go to watch your bred at LKA in December the last champ show of the year.

Thank you Barbra for your advice. What paperwork do I need to take to shows? do I just take his kc registration and pedigree? or are there any forms i need to get and take with me

You don't need to take any of your pup's paperwork to shows with you. Just your passes if you've entered a championship show :-)

Can I ask a silly question.  Did I miss what breed of dog we were talking about?  Would only have a query in the fact that I assume the breed is one that has classes or is on import reg. etc.  Other than that, everyone else's advice stands.

Also Boston is still ok to enter online!

I think its a spitz they are talking about

Well the first if for under 24 months the others are adult classes, but nothing preventing a youngster being entered.

At Open level when there are no puppy classes the judge will declare Best puppy from any dogs in the classes, even if they don't win or even are unplaced, basically the highest placed puppy.

I would enter him in the Spyrl and PG class.

Also a Junior stakes or Open stakes if they have one.

Yearling is for dogs between 12 - 24 months, but special yearling is for dogs up to 24 months, which means puppies can enter it too.

Barbra can I pick your brains again? just about to fill in the entry form for the manchester champ show. What would be the best classes to enter him? am I right in thinking I should enter him in JD and PGD and then the Bannerdown Special beginners stakes. Need to get my head round the rules. If he enters the JD and gets a first place but is beaten in the PGD does he still stand a chance of going through to the BOB ? also If he gets a first place in these classes do I pull him from the stakes class?

Many thanks

Only unbeaten dogs can challenge for Best dog, so you need to win both.

Of course if the dog that beats you into second in PG wins the CC you can challenge for the RCC, with the winners of the other classes.

You only need to pull him from the stakes class if he goes Best of Breed.

Thanks once again for a prompt reply. You are very helpfull and it is much appreciated. Do you think I should stick with the JD and PG then?

I personally love the stakes classes, and enter them whenever I can.

In my breed we don't have large classes so often your in and out of the ring to quickly for the dog to get worthwhile experience.

I also love chatting to the other exhibitors and learning something of their breeds, compare handling styles between breeds, and all in all in the 'apples against oranges' classes I (and therefore the dog) are more relaxed.

Well I have put him into JD and beginner stakes. I think that will be enough for him. I am going to the LKA next week to watch enquire and meet new sammy owners :-D

> Hi Barbra Went to manchester champ show.

I think you mean you went to Boston so called championship show?

This is really an Open show that has been granted the status of mini champ show, nothing like a real general or Group championship show, it only has CC's for a small number of breeds.

A CC won there is of equal value to one won at Crufts ;-)

Not unless it was 11 months ago -Boston isn't until January. It was the Open show that was in December, since it became a champ.show it has been in January. I received my passes for it today as it happens. :-)
Marianne. Dogs are not our whole lives, there are cats too!

Yes but it is only a champ show for very few breeds.

Wonder what show it was then.

The OP said she was "going to LKA next week to watch enquire and meet new sammy owners :-D"

Mind you with the weird geography that applies to dog showing - she could have been anywhere.  With a few notable exceptions, no show is ever quite where one would expect!  :-)

Quite possibly LKA as there were no CC's on offer and i went searching for people i know in the breed and there were very few people about or dogs entered and none of my friends..

I also thought that the Boston show was in Jan?
By Brainless (*****) [gb] Date 19.12.09 00:14 GMT Edited 19.12.09 00:19 GMT
Your probably all right, I am already in January with Manchester entered and Crufts needing doing soon!

There were 22 Samoyeds in the classes at LKA, so the mystery deepens, LOL ;-)

Sorry didnt notice I'd put manchester lol.......... had so many things on my mind the past couple of weeks. You were right i ment to say LKA at birmingham. So barbra is that the normal number of entries for the samoyed breed ? I thought there would have been more than that

Maddie there are normally quite a high entry for Sam's at Ch shows where CC's are on offer, the number is slightly dropping as are most breeds this year.

Have you been on the following websites, you can see your breed, and how many were entered and results.. You prob know them but here they are anyway.
http://www.highampress.co.uk/

http://www.fossedata.co.uk/

They are the 2 main ones for Ch shows..
By Brainless (*****) [gb] Date 21.12.09 09:11 GMT
I'd say 22 without CC's would be average, as that is about what we get (though Sams are a stronger breed numerically).

Just looked at the entry for Birmingham National (has CC's for all breeds) this year, and there were 76 entries (some dogs may have been in more than one class though, and some absent).

Good luck Tracey, I am also a brand new beginner who has opted to go to Manchester with a new puppy for a mutual baptism of fire...still wondering if I have gone completely mad.
OK, so the cream carpets were a bad idea
