Polo's had a cough today; a sort of dry, 'hacking' cough which doesn't bring anything up. It's not very severe and seems to occur in bouts; he's happy and well otherwise. Could it be Kennel Cough? I'll pop him over to the Vet surgery on Monday if the cough shows no signs of going away. Is there anything I can do to help in the meantime?
                                                               Thanks, Sarah

Please don't take him into the surgery waiting rom as he could infect others and this could be bad news for a dog that is already unwell.  Tell the Vet you suspect Kennel cough and they should see you outside in the car.

I agree with Brainless. I hope it isn't. Some times worms can cause a cough!

Thanks for the replies, I'll definitely get the vet to come to the car. I hope it's not KC, I like to be cautious though. Thats a good point Denese,  I'll worm him, it's been about three months now.

Its the time of year as well that mine get kennel cough, only one of mine had it this year where as all 4 got it last year, with the same sounding symptons, he was put on antibiotic's just to stop any secondary infection.

Was also told to try benylin using a childs dose but didn't need to as he only has it very mild, anyone else used that? just out of interest for maybe next time i get it

When I did a lot of fostering and rescue transport I used benelyn all the time at the first sign of kennel cough and it usually helped a lot. At a push I've also used baby calpol for pain while waiting for vet appointment but can't say that I'd recommend it as it's not been tested for dogs... I also used dog lice lotion on my kids last week when I couldn't get to the pharmacy and they came home from school with nits - my vet nurse uses it all the time on her kids so I thought I'd give it a go! Worked better than the pharmacy brands just smells like the old fashione stuff and doesn't have built in conditioner :S
