Hi All,
Well, we just put Bryn-the-Greyhound back on Rimadyl but had a real shock when we picked up the meds at the new vets. Almost 50 quid per month? That's double what we were paying at the old vet clinic (of course knowing them, perhaps it was aspirin, I wouldn't put it past them....). We don't mind paying what ever it takes to get Bryn feeling fit, but wonder if all you dear show folk have found a cheaper way of buying your meds.
In the US, we just had to get a prescription (which there, vets HAVE to provide on request) and ordered our meds from mail order catalogues. Can you do that in England? Being new to the dog world over here, I feel a bit helpless! I have always done my own injections and vaccinations...heck even had to stitch up a dog or two in an emergency, but what do you all do over here?
Thanks, know you will tell all lol!
Love ya
Suzi
You can get prescription only medicines from animal chemists.
The RCVS guide to professional conduct issued to Vets June 2001
stated this that Vet. surgeons should not reasonably refuse to supply a prescription if a client wishes to purchase medicines from a pharmacist.
The president also stated that a reasonable clerical fee for writing such a prescription, if charged at all, should be a maximum of £2.50.
The RCVS will regard overcharging as professional misconduct.

Tel 0700-0456777, they do mail order and catalogue.
There is another pharmacist that advertises in the dog papers too.
