I have two bitches booked in to be spayed next week. I have not had a bitch spayed before and am worrying about it. What can I expect. I know it is supposed to be very safe these days but I am worying myself sick about the anaesthetic etc.
I know I will need to keep them quiet afterwardsand if they are both feeling sore then hopefully that will be easier than if just one was spayed.
How long do I need to keep them quiet for? the younger one is a bit of a lunatic and tends to do everything at 100miles an hour.
I have just started agility with her. I asked the vet about how long I should keep her away from agility for but she didn't really seem sure, just said a couple of weeks. As my girl is so enthusiastic about her jumping I would worry she would damage something if I go back to it too soon.
I was told two weeks very quiet lead only exersise. like you my dog is used to hard fast exersise so she ended up with 2 weeks no walks as lead walks just sent her into a frenzy.my dogs 2 weeks are up and i intend on giving her now a week of gentle exersise before letting her build up to former level again. I am pretty certain if I let her go raving mad she would do herself injury-not necessarily to spay site but theres plenty of other bits of body that can get hurt if a dog goes from no exersise to mad levels overnight so she will be building up slow.
After my bitch was spayed I was advised lead exercise only for 10 days then no agility training for about 3 weeks then start again with just very low jumps for another week or so building her up gradually and to avoid the A frame for at least a month.I'm lucky as my vet does agility herself so understands whats involved.Better to err on the side of caution.

How old are your girls?
The hurrier I go - the behinder I get!
They are 4 and nearly 2 and a half.
Thanks, My younger one sounds very like yours. I am dreading keeping her quiet. Walks will be difficult as she is used to free running. Sounds like I will have to play it by ear a bit, but at least it is christmas soon so training is off for a couple of weeks so I won't be tempted to start her again too soon.

This is the trouble with not making sure your dogs are used to lead-walking as well as free running. Obviously bitches need controlled exercise during their seasons and not allowed to run as they'd wish, and when we've had the foot-and-mouth outbreaks
all dogs had to be exercised on the lead only. So it's as well to make sure they're accepting of changes in routine.
