My dearest boy with the flippy-flappy kissy tongue, the lashing tail and the enormous grin has gone. Following a freak accident which tragically left him paralysed, and no signs of improvement after several weeks, Harry was released from his indignity and frustration. My handsome boy, my cheerful clown, my trusting, uncomplaining, loving dear best friend is now free, no longer condemned to struggle. We tried everything we could to get some sort of recovery, but whatever had gone wrong so suddenly had done irreparable damage, and we loved him far too much to make him endure only half a life because of our selfish desire to have him with us for longer. Sleep well, my Harry, my Baby Boy. I miss you more than words can say.

Thank you, everyone, for your kindness and sympathy; the personal tributes and thoughts mean a lot. "Run free" never meant so much as it does this time, because that was something my beloved boy was never going to do again on this earth, no matter how badly he wanted to. Now his loving, patient soul is freed from his crippled body, and for that I can only be glad. I know that in time the enormous Harry-shaped hole in my life will heal but at the moment it's unbearably painful.

I am so sorry to hear this. You did the kindest thing for Harry, his torture is now over and I am sure he is running free again. As hard as it is for us, we are so privilaged to be able to end their suffering.

I am so sorry to read this Jan, i know all to well how hard it is to let them go, Harry will be playing with my Abbey who too suffered spinal damage, you are brave and your decision was a very selfless one and he will thank you for that
