I took Both girls out for a walk this morning and let them off the lead together  for the first time since they were spayed. With hindsight this  was a mistake as they had  a  bit of a scuffle, and Mist bit Susies ear. In the dark I din't realsie exactly what  had been done, just heard a  yelp, but when I got home found that Susie was covered in blood and has a little piece out of her ear. the bleeding has stopped now. I have bathed it  with salt water. Just wondering if I need to take her to the vet to get it looked at? the nick is only about  1/4 inch  wide and looks clean. Will it heal OK? I can't see that the vet could stich it

we cant see the ear to really know.

if it were my dog and i were worried, i would at least call the vet and then make my decision what to do next.

maybe he/she will tell you it can wait until tomorrow when it's normal opening hours?

thanks, the vet does have a surgery this morning so  might just take her  along to check. I sometimes think  I worry too much about them. Susie  seems fine and the ear is not bleeding. If it was one of the kids I would just  put a plaster on it.

Hi, my two girls had a set to a few weeks ago and Enya ended up with a bitten ear,just a tiny nick on the tip which sounds pretty much like your girl,anyway I cleaned her up (including the walls and furniture lol) and it has healed up completly.You can only see it if you look really close. I spoke to my vet at the time and he told me as it was such a small wound he would not stitch it,also as ears tend to bleed for the country and I had cleaned it straight away he felt it would be best left alone. I now put basket muzzles on my pair when its playtime as the little monsters eye each other up for round two!.

My girl did this to my boy in the summer, they were on holiday with me but had to live at the local kennels with me taking them out twice a day for walks.
The problem was me, causing jealously over who got put on the lead first.
The bleeding was awful, every time he shook his head a whole other coating.........but it did clean up and heal quickly.

i had the same with my girls a few months ago now, never seen so much blood for such a small scratch and it went everywhere. infact i had to re paint some walls and i'm still finding drops on walls i hadn't noticed.
anyway i went to the vets as it kept bleeding every time she shook her head and although it didn't need any stitches she was giving an antibiotic injection just in case of infection.
thankfully thats the only time they had a scuffle and things have been fine since. 

Over the years, I've discovered that a syptic pencil is good for nicks like this - it stops the bleeding pretty quickly and saves the whole house looking as if a murder has been committed!
