Can anyone recommend some cheap hair straighteners?

I have always used ghds but husband stood on them this morning when the puppy started squeeling to go out for a wee!! He said I shouldn't have left them on the floor so I said he should buy me a dressing table!!

Anyway, I can't afford to buy ghds and with the Xmas festivities coming (and a holiday to Mexico booked for 13th Jan - Woohoo!!) I desperately need a temporary replacement!!

I was thinking anything up to £30 - There's loads in Argos but don't want to buy some only to find that they're rubbish!!

Nothing works for me other than GHD'S... Maybe you could get a pair of second hand ones from ebay? not sure how you would guarentee them to work. What about hairdressers, do they sell them on when a new model comes onto the market?

these are brill... i bought these whilst waiting for a replacement set of GHDs.... they straighten my hair brilliantly any my hair is almost an afro

Make sure what ever you get that its ceramic. If you get the case of frizzy hair avoid anything steam related or you could look interesting!! Just from previous experience.. Oh and with the humid air in Cuba there will be no point in bothering with straighteners, again from previous experience..

I couldn't go back to anything else once using ghds but there are loads on ebay for around the price you are looking at.

Also, it might be worth checking whether you can send them back for repair. I have had mine now for 4 years and have sent them back to be fixed, free of charge, 3 times. Im pretty sure they have a life time guarantee. Although whether they cover 'damage by silly man feet' im not sure

Hee hee hee - I don't think so!! They do still work but they are actually in 2 separate pieces held together by the internal wires!! I did use them this morning to do my fringe (I had to use both hands, one "arm" in each hand) but I did end up straightening my finger too!!!

I did think about getting 2nd hand ones but don't really want to wait for them to be posted, wanted to get some this weekend.

My first ever pair of straighteners when I was about 14 were those Babyliss steam ones (the massive white ones where you had to fill them with water) - They were rubbish and didn't actually do anything other than send out shots of steam and make blisters on your head but I insisted on using them every day!! Ha ha, all my friends thought I was soooo cool because I was allowed to use straighteners!!

ASDA is currently selling Vidal Sassoon straighteners for just £7. My daughter is training to be a hair dresser and she asked me for these for Christmas from Argos -she seemed to know exactly what she wanted:

I had those too !!!

I got these ones when I had to send my GHD's in for repair http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4428286/Trail/searchtext%3EHAIR+STRAIGTHNERS.htm they did the job but I dont think anything compares to GHD's.

Tesco own brand ones are great.  They only cost about £7.99 and they're second only to my GHDs.  I bought them when my GHDs broke and I needed some to tide me over while I sent them away to be fixed.  They are much better than some of the more expensive ones I've had in the past  

You could check if your GHDs might be repairable.  I found a guy on ebay who did the repair for about £20 and I had them back within 3 days of posting them off.  If you search for GHD repair, you'll find several people offering the service.  If I recall correctly, they return the GHDs and refund your money if they are unable to repair them so it might be worth the cost of the postage to find out.

So glad I read this thread I have bought my Grandaughter ghd ones  I thought  I was  going over the top as they are so expensive she has no idea she is getting them but the cheap ones she normally have keep breaking so thanks for the info I am happy I got them now.

True  about being in better position  when a grandma but not always been so I struggled with my children   as a youngish Mum     worked all the time so  grandparents spoiled the children.............
I figured instead of loads of cheaper stocking fillers to go for one decent gift this year.
I know what its like to struggle to give children things  when they are young I always check i am not going to outdo her Mum  and her Dad  we are a loving family though my Son had custody of her when she was two we are all respectful to each other and her Mum  is a good person  now time has healed all the bad things we all want whats good for my grandaughter and her half sisters and brothers  I have always sent gifts for them  to me family is family doesnt need to be blood family and  our own children are precious. even when they are    36
