As I have already posted I am hand rearing a litter of 4 puppies. I have had my fair share of worry over the past 2 and half weeks and I thought things were getting better but Ive hit another problem!

Puppies opened their eyes a few days ago but lil pup had one eye which took longer, it was the eye which was infected from around 3 days old (another pup had one infected too) they all had synulox and her eye cleared up. When it opened 2 days ago all there is is red skin. I phoned the vet (xmas day) who said as she had had synulox and also a jab that week (for swollen glands) she was covered for infection and really there was nothing they could do imediately so to keep an eye on her and bring her in Tuesday. Her eye looks clean, there is no swelling or discharge and she is fine in herself.

Im now worried, I have never come across this before in any of my litters.

Has anyone had any experience of this?

Do you mean to say the eye is missing?

I cant see an eye only red skin. I dont know if the eye is underneath the skin. The socket isnt hollow.

aww danielle you have been though it havnt you ive never come across this eather so i carnt coment ,but was going to say the same as brainless ? so if theirs a bulge their does that mean theres an eye?

i havent come across this either but could it be the eye lid covering the eye .

This is what im hoping, rather than no eye. It does look as if the eye may be behind the skin.

Danielle - if it does happen that the eye is missing - please don't get into a state.  I have a one eyed dog here, and they can function as well as the next.

I do know they can live a perfectly normal life but obviously I am hoping she has her eye. We have already spoken about it and my mam wants to keep her and she will be a much loved, spoilt rotten pet!!!

Well been back n forward to vets and they say only time will tell. They may be an eye there or may not be. She has drops for her eye and her glands are right up on one side of her neck bless.

It looks like her second eyelid hasnt opened yet.

Been to the vets today and the eye has been damaged. The vet had a good luck.

Also what we thought was the gland up as previously is actually a large abcess!! The vet drained some which was horrible not only to watch but listen to her yelp bless her.

The vet thinks the bitch has hurt her as she was apparantly grabbing them by their heads!!

I love this little pup to bits and glad she is staying, she has been through so much in her short 3 weeks of life but hopfully it will all be up hill from here.
