I am really worried about my 3yr old bitch, she as been sick at least a dozen times since 5.30pm  today.  She asnt eaten since this morning.  She is very sleepy and doesnt seem well at all.  I have rung the vets to take her in and then just said to see how she is in the morning.  She as never been ill before and is feeling really sorry for herself.  She as a slightly raised temperature.  Any advice please as I am really worried about her and dont know what to do.

If your vet is not worried, but you are - use a different vet.  I once had an out of hours vet refuse me a call out, and phoned another vet, more than happy to pay the out of hours charge.

You need to have somone assess your girl, and they can't do that over the phone.  You sound worried, so try to find a vet that will take you seriously.

sod the vet and take her in. i took their advice once and didnt take my boy in til the morning and he was so incredible poorly by then he was kept in for ages with gastroenteritis. the infection obviously had a lot longer to set in. has she drunk? being sick so much could make her dehydrated.... 12 times is a lot of times! they'll at least give her an anti emetic which will make her feel better.
our vets got annoyed with us once because we called him out once he got home... so what, thats his job!

Hi, thanks for the advice we did take her in, she had a raised temperature, could not find anything else but gave her an injection to settle her tummy.  She is brighter but still not 100%, we are to take her back later to get re-assessed.

To go slightly OT I once had an out of hours Dr tell me my 3 month old baby 'just had a cold' when I was really worried about him. After an hour of worry I rang back and insisted they come and see him (this was when they actually did house calls). Her first words were 'can you get to the hospital or would you like me to phone an ambulance?' Since then I've always trusted my instincs when it comes to my kids or my dogs. Sometimes they appear really ill and I'll let it go for a day to see how they do - and they've always perked up without intervention - and sometimes they just seem a little off colour but when it's been looked into there's something nasty lurking.

Trust your instincts and insist on seeing someone when you feel you should. No one knows your dogs like you do.

Better safe than sorry, especially as GDV (bloat) is so common these days.
My vet-tech friend who works for emergency out of hours vets sees so many GDVs coming in, even in breeds not normally considered at risk, and 3 in one day once. It's the second biggest killer of dogs, after cancer.

Just an update we went back yesterday and today, they dont know what's wrong said possible just a virus she as picked up.  Temperature is almost back to normal, vomiting as stopped but as a runny nose and eyes.  Now on a course off antibiotics, she as eaten a little and certainly seems brighter.  I have never ever been so worried about an animal before she went downhill very quicker. Have slept on the settee with her for the last 2 nights.  I would say she is now on the road to recovery.
