Have a 6 month old pup that does not get her tail up. We put it down to 'nerves' although to be honest she is very outgoing. At her first show today I had a long chat with someone who is in Gundogs and knows our breed well. She said she felt the pup is very happy and relaxed  and she wags the tail all the time but still does not put it up. She thought possible trapped nerve. Must admit I had not tought of anything like that. When I look back at her puppy pics her tail was okay till about 3 months.
The ladies suggestion was rather than let the vet start messing to look at alternatives, maybe massage, chiropracter etc. Not sure which way to go. Has anyone else ever had anything similar and how did they . She looks so nice on profile but her tail is almost always tucked under her. Pretty sure it has never been broken or anything as she has and does not show sign of pain. The Lady thought it reacted as if it were numb. Like a wet tail in some breeds.

I wonder if she has limber tail/cold tail syndrome?

Bit like that, I have seen it in one of our dogs though he was undocked and she is docked. Its been going on too long though I think.

Sue try a chiropractor, had similar with one of ours, puppies in play can damage and trap nerves.  One I use is very good and local, she will come to you.

We had a puppy that at 4 months damaged its tail about half way along, a lot of treatment massage etc., did not really help and now although she can lift it up it droops off to one side, not noticeable when wagging, only when held out straight.   If you feel along the tail from the base down towards the injured part, once you reach where it has been injured it feels almost as if on from there that she has no control over it, it feels floppy.

We still show her fairly successfully, no judge as yet has mentioned it in their critique!!!!, and it does not seem to cause any problem to the bitch concerned.
