Hi,

I have a 8 week old staffie bitch. My male is 4 years old. Now she does not want to eat her expensive puppy food but only his food which is for grown up dogs. Is this bad for my puppy ie other type of nutricients in the grown up food than in the puppy food? Please help!

Out of interest, what is the food she is on?

Yes, she should certainly be eating puppy food.  If you feed the adult seperately, in another room, you can avoid her stealing.  Then she will have to eat her puppy food.

As others have said, it's very important that she has puppy food - although a few swapped bits of kibble wouldn't harm either of them.

When my youngest was a pup I actually found it easier to move my adult to the grown up version of the puppy food.  He needed a change anyway and, as it smelt the same as the pups food I didn't get any problems after that.  Pups are quite curious about new things and it seems they go through a stage where everything gets explored mouth first!

I like to feed mine in the same room but used to watch them eat.  I also used (still do, actually) the open crate door to provide a barrier between them.  Finally I don't allow bowl swapping until both have finished, when they like to check if anything - any tiny crumb - got left behind :-)
