On the 'health' forum, I asked for help under the heading 'itchy dog' about my itchy dog Maisie. Which, in your opinion, is the best food for itchy dogs.  She was on James Wellbeloved/Burns and Naturediet - she's just on Naturediet until we find out what the vets test says on Monday.  The poor thing has literally bitten off a big chunk of her fur and is currently on antibiotics and wearing a lampshade.  She is also shaking with nerves in response to said lampshade and being given tablets.  I will try some of the treatments suggested but I want to look at food changes too.

I have been told by a few people that orijen is good. So Daisy has started on this it's early days so we will see. She is also on antibiotics and ear drops at the moment because she also has made herself sore. 

I suppose it depends what she is allergic to.  I have heard that Burns Pork and Potato is good, my boy is only allergic to chicken and duck so he is on the Venison burns which suits him.

It depends entirely what she is allergic to. I have two dogs with food allergies, one is on a vegan diet due to his allergy to animal protein and the other one is on a home cooked diet as no commercial diet - dry or wet - fits his requirements.

I have one of my females on Salmon & Potato, it is suiting her great, she was always loose on other foods, as said depends on her allergies.

Many dogs have problems with grains so I'd go for one of the grain-free diets if you want to feed a dry complete. Or you could try a raw, BARF-style diet where you'd have total control as to what Maisie is eating.

It depends what ingedient(s) trigger the itching.

My last dog could not eat chicken without getting a reaction, a mild reaction would be itching all over and shaking his head due to an irritated ear, a bad reaction (from a larger qnty of chicken) would be a bad ear infection and chewing himself bald

Trying to think now of that prescription food from the vets. Is it ZD?? I know the ingriedients in it are broken down so much the dogs don't get the reactions. A friend of mine uses it on her severely allergic dog. Its the only thing she can eat.

The two foods being referred to are manufactured by Hills specifically for dogs with food allergies/intolerances and they are called DD and ZD. They are both prescription diets.

Hills ID is used for dogs with gastrointestinal problems, such as pancreatitis, colitis, ibd to name but a few.

Once you have the results of the blood tests, your Vet will probably suggest the way forward, be it recommending a commercial diet or suggesting you use an exclusion diet for a period of time.

I now/have fed Timberwolf, Evo, Wysong, Taste of the wild, Natures Variety Instinct, Fromm, and Canisource. I have not tried any of the unprocessed foods yet but have tried samples and they love it. The Canisource I will only buy as treats due to the fact they just gorged themselves on it and 1 of my dogs became very protected of that food lol

I like to change their food up each time so they don't get bored with it and they seem to really like this. They are all free from by-products corn, wheat, soy, brewers rice, beet pulp,BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin, sodium nitrite/nitrate, propylene glycol, propyl gallate, corn syrup, phosphoric acid, artificial flavours and colours... I guess you have to just find what works best for your dog and your pocket book.
