My Dane this morning was very swollen around the eyes, like she had been stung, I have had her to the vets, and there not quite sure what caused it, she is a digger and was digging in the fields yesterday.
I wondered if any insects could have caused this?
She's had a steriod inj, and steriods to take today and tomorrow.
Anybody else's dogs had this in Winter??
She's happy in herself, eating, racing around, but looks like shes been in the boxing ring!!

Yes this has happened twice to dogs of mine in winter. Passed within 24 hrs. First time I saw vet, second time didn't.No idea what caused it.

Same thing happened to my Annie when she was a youngter,I rang emergency vet he told my to put a cold compress on her face,swelling went down within a hour

Her swelling has went down by 80%, still eaten her tea and had a run round the fields!!

I'm off to read this thread about allergic reactioins.  My bitch's eyes & lips suddenly became swollen one day - it came on so suddenly it was really frightening.  They gave her an injection & it was sorted very quickly.  I still don't know what caused it.  Frogs, hmmm, interesting.

ETA - a toad/frog would make sense in our case - I have to say I thought of hedgehog/fox/badger in our garden.  But my girl kept going behind the oil tank, probably a very good place for a fat toad to hide.
