Anyone tried these type of things ?  Do they work or a waste of money ?

I have one but havent used it for years.  I quite like the feeling it gives, it's a bit like a tens machine.  As to whether it works I often felt it the next day but can't say I noticed a major change in my shape.  Like everything, I suppose it only works if you use it. 

Bought one, and religously used it daily for a month, before I decided it was a waste of money.

Ive always found the best way to lose weight is to not eat as much crap and drink less alcohol. Unless there is a medical reason/condition for the weight.

And, in my case avoid Christmas (she says, 1/2 stone heavier).

Anyone wanting an alternative view to losing weight and other alternative therapys etc should sign up for Dr Al Sears (he has his own site if you google his name) newsletters.
Sure hes trying to sell his products but you get an email everyday with an awful lot of good ideas etc.

The Slendertone products and other similar ones are not designed to help you lose weight - just to tone you up.  The best way to get a toned tummy is stomache crunches in my opinion.  Simple and free - just start with a few a day and build up.

Mike is right, these novel inventions never work - old fashioned effort & hard work is whats needed as well as a balanced diet and sensible approach to eating.

stomach crunches only work for a very short period and even then don't do much.  Your body becomes accustomed and puts the fat on elsewhere!  Or so the experts say.

Stomach crunches will always work. They aren't done to get rid of fat, they are done to make and maintain muscle tone all around that area. Fat lies on top of the abdominals. We all have abdominal muscles.......we just can't often see them !. Keeping them strong is great for all sorts, especially preventing back problems.
As long as you do the crunches correctly (slowly, maintaining posture with your tummy muscles engaged and breath out slowly as you come up) you will see a difference. Hundreds of fast crunches with no tummy control is a waste of time.

recently heard the 'experts' (whoever they are!) say the reason so many of the younger generation (me included ) have the 'muffin top' is because of the hipster style trousers/jeans. Because the hip area is now so much more exposed the body has learnt to put on more weight there to protect the kidneys from getting cold.

LOL! I had a 'muffin top' before the modern hipsters hit the shops! In fact, I don't wear hipsters, but every time I've tried a pair on, my muffin top makes an appearance I don't think I have cold kidneys (LOL, that's sooooo funny) I think I need to loose a few more lbs and tone up the flabby muscles

I am also a very occasional drinker , just 2 glasses of something fizzy at Christmas . Then the next morning i  remember why i hardly drink !!!

I can't do crunches or sit-ups as they knacker my back , so i was trying to find something to tone up my tummy . Never mind i am learning to love my muffin top !!!

Years ago elderly  ladies would pin a piece of red flannel inside their clothes across the back to keep the cold off their kidneys !

Apart from the fact that the kidneys are higher than the hips, I don't believe that a species can evolve so much in such a short time! In the Olden Days the roll of fat around the midriff was known as a 'spare tyre', and was generally covered up for reasons of taste. Since American-style muffins hit the shops, and it became fashionable to show more flesh, the spare tyre was renamed.

To be fair St.Domingo - I live alone, and drinking by yourself could easily lead to too much, so I don't bother.  The only folk I know that live alone and drink at night, can't actually go a night without one.  So I suppose I don't drink for that reason, more than anything else.  I certainly wouldn't pretend that I've never been merry!  But not in a long time!

As to the slendertone - I got it after I had reached target weight, thinking I could just tighten up my tum.  I was very good, and used it everyday.  But it didn't tighten one single muscle, and I was fed up of having to do nothing while the thing was on. 

In the end, I thought Jean - get a life!  I would rather be messing around with the dogs I guess!

LOL i was in bed last night and it just clicked what a muffin top is (DOH) i was getting muddled up with a camels hoof , now that isnt attractive LOL
