Has any one used eye drops for there dogs called Chloramphenicol eye drops, apparently from what ive just read on another forum they are now available at the chemist without prescription, and have the same ingrediants (if thats the right words) as golden eye which again i read is no longer available, and are safe for dogs unlike some others.

There're just antibiotic drops but at a reduced concentration. Care must still be used to avoid misuse and the creation of resistant strains of bacteria.

Optrex infected contains chloramphenical and it can be bought over the counter.  It ceased being a POM a few years back.

Yes you can buy this from the Chemist the Golden Eye (our chemist sells it)they sell from behind the counter and the Oprex one the Pharmist has to Ok it the later has to be kept in the fridge,my vet said i could use these on our Boston for no longer than 48 hours without consulting a vet as you never no if they have a ulcer in the eye. Please dont tell them that the ointment or drops at the chemist are for a Dog as they wont give them to you, my little chemist does but any others i have got it from ive had to make up a white lie for it being for my other half.Debby
