is there any eye testing at crufts this year and how do you book it if there is?
By ClaireyS (****) [gb] Date 07.02.10 22:02 GMT
I dont know if there is this year but I know last year unless you are first to have your passes posted out you dont have a hope of getting in - its first come first served.
Hit goal weight back in May .... could still do with losing a bit more though !!

Details are in with the paperwork they send out to you. Some years they gave you a particular date to phone a number on and its first come first served. Last year it was no date, just phone as soon as you get the letter, and as not everyone received the letter on the same day it was very unfair as all the places were booked before people like me had even received the letter.

By ClaireyS (****) [gb] Date 08.02.10 09:00 GMT

Generally they offer free eye tests each day.  Normally a very small number, 20 or so.  I was lucky enough to get one several years ago when they gave a day to ring to try and get appointments.  Its a very messy system when the letters are sent on different days, and if you're like me even harder to get the appointment after you've been in the ring so that the dog isn't out of sorts for the judging.  I cant remember if you can pay to have eye tests done, unless anyone else knows it will be a case of sitting and waiting for the paper work to arrive in the post.

Eye tests are free but they will only be given to those who've never had a free eye test at Crufts & if your dog isn't microchipped that is compulsory as part of the package too (Or it was when I had Curtis tested at Crufts 2007).

25 free eye tests per day.
3 litters of Munsters = 3 Sh.Ch's & 3 RCC winners! Not bad eh?

well never had a free one so will give it a try but 25 a day BOY will i have to be quick and lucky

I didn't get anything either.  Looks like the year when we have to try the hardest to prove our dogs are healthy they remove the only free health tests we get!

You always get a separate envelope with offers, leaflets etc. It's usually in there. Not had one yet.

Thank you for posting this, ive just managed to book one,  lucky I didnt have to wait for my paper work to come through otherwise I would have missed out again !!   I must have been one of the last to get in though because I couldnt get one until 3.45.  I booked the latest one at 4.15, I just really hope it doesnt clash with my classes, ive gone and entered good citizens which is right at the end of the day, also in mid limit or minor limit (cant remember which lol ) so that should be ok.

I've just got a big A4 size letter from Crufts with lots of info in there about tests etc through the post, so would imagine everyone will be getting theirs soon.

Phoned this morning at 9.30 when I got my envelope, only appointments available for Saturday was costing £45.
By welshie (***) [gb] Date 19.02.10 15:09 GMT
Well what a farce got my leaflets this am phoned and GUESS WHAT? FULL!!!! i am yet to get in with any dog yet i think people get in and book before paper work goes out
By peppe (**) [gb] Date 19.02.10 15:48 GMT
I tried that but they wouldn't let me as I missed out last year. I phoned as soon as paperwork turned up and yes FULL I think asking £45 is a bit much they are suppose to encourage us to have it done so should make it more reasonable

By dancer (*) [gb] Date 20.02.10 09:49 GMT
By the time my paperwork arrived all appointments had been taken too.
By Brainless (*****) [gb] Date 20.02.10 11:28 GMT
£45 is the standard one dog rate that you pay if you take dog to a panelist for testing.

You would think they would apply the group discounts at crufts once the free spaces are allocated like they do at other shows/clubs testing days.

Here is the list of eye testing charges: http://www.bva.co.uk/Eye_Scheme.aspx

Shows group rate of 25 or more as £27

for those with late apts who think may clash with classes,
what i did couple year ago was i nipped up earlier and asked if many people hadnt turned up / as this happens if ppl in classes and cant make it,
there had been quite few do this..miss apts,
so i got done lot earlier..
no harm in asking on day,
jayne

glad some of you managed to get appts wen i added number
xx

all dogs must be micro chipped now before eye tests done
not sure cost on day for chipping.
By Brainless (*****) [gb] Date 21.02.10 08:52 GMT

Actually they must be id'd to be eye tested (or hi scored etc) and tattoo is equally acceptable, though I think they insist on chips for the free sessions.
