Hi everyone. Well more specifically anyone with a german shepherd! I have an almost 2 year old gsd and he is excellent with people and dogs that are properly introduced. However here, they are a restricted breed so must wear a muzzle when we're out. Luckily I live in a rural area and have plenty of spots to take my gsd and other dogs so they can have plenty of off lead running. I currently am using a halti collar for him when we're likely to meet anyone but he has discovered that if he pulls backwards, he can get out. His hair is very thick so its tricky to know how tight to put it. I also find it restrictive in summer as he cant open his mouth wide enough to pant. So I'm looking to get a muzzle that he can wear but open his mouth for panting in heat. I'd be grateful to hear what others are using. I tried a grey hound muzzle but it was too small. And he isn't exactly huge!

I'd recommend a Baskerville -they can definitely pant with them on, they are pretty lightweight, and you can even squeeze bits of food through them to give the dog a treat whilst he is wearing it. Introduce it as a "bowl" to start with and offer it to the dog with food in so he gets used to iy meaning something nice.

Marianne. Dogs are not our whole lives, there are cats too!

Kate, if you'd like to PM me? Roger who runs companyofanimals has sent me a few donations last year and a few Baskerville but they do not fit the Bullies so you are welcome to one.
I'd hate to take from a charity. You might need them. I had him at the local pet shop and tried the greyhound muzzles but they were all too small and narrow. I swear I dont know what he's made of the devil!! I've searched a good few pet shops but they only have the nylon ones that shut the mouth completely. I just want to be sorted before summer when the fine weather walkers emerge!

What about taking Otterhound up on her offer and making a donation to her charity.

Hi
If you look on ebay for a leather dog muzzle, there is a nice fairly open weave one made by Trixie.

It's really no worry, Katie, I wouldn't have offered otherwise. Please PM me your address and I'll pop in the mail for you.
