I have had an enquirery this morning from an aqauintance who is looking to get a chow pup and she wants to know what she should be looking for. I have no idea!! She states that Dad has a mild skin problem near his tail and Mum has "Mild entropien" now allarm bells are ringing so I would like to pick the brains of anyone with knowledge please?

According to KC website they should be hip scored. I wouldnt have a puppy with a parent with entropian, of any degree. Sounds suspicious to me

They would be best to check with the Chow Club - the code of ethics is
here but, as always, they'd be best to have a chat with a member.

there are no manditory health checks for chows. accredited breeders have the recommendation of hip scoring at present but the breed council hope to bring about AB's having to belong to 3 breed clubs as necessary too.
as with ANY breed you are looking for healthy parents and good breeding practices.
I suggest the buyer looks on the KC puppy sales register and speaks to clubs for known breeders of quality animals please write to me privately if I can help in this capacity

Thanks for your replys I have now put the lady in touch with a committee member who is on the ball and we have rejected the pup in question and found a much better litter of well bred pups. Hopefully there will be one for her there. Thanks again

I wouldn't buy from a litter with that background. Dad could have hypothyroidism with that story and mum's problem is hereditary also. Tell your friends to run a mile, well actually tell them to keep going!
If I wanted a Poodle, OES, TT or IWS I would have bought one. SWD's shd. be natural and rustic. No
