Hi , a few weeks back my little girl had an infection and my male tried mating her (they never did mate but he was trying )Well she seems to be having what i can only be described from reading as a phanthom pregnancy (not eating ,and hiding food) What i want to know is ,she is due in season soon ,will this affect her season pattern and is there anything i can do to possible stop her thinking she is pregnant ..thanks

Is your boy entire? I don't know anything about dog breeding, but would have assumed that reproduction between dogs is similar to that in humans, in so much as the male doesn't have to ejaculte or fully penetrate the female in order for fertilisation to happen, leaked semen (prior to ejaculation) can make it's journey. Not sure if this is the same in dogs?

If she were my bitch I would be worried about actual pregnancy, but like I say, I don't know about dog-breeding and I've never ownwed a female dog.

Hi, she was not in season at the time ,She just had a eye infection and obviously the smell of the infection must have set my male off , And when i say tried to mate her i should have said he was very interested in her ,sniffing and ready to mount (it was stopped and they were separated )I am quite sure there are no pup's in there , she is just acting like my older bitch used to when she had phanthom's ...Hiding the kids gloves and toys ...

Ahh, bless her. My sisters dog has had a couple of phantoms, she collected a few stuffed toys and a football, all carefully tucked up in her bed. she would clean them and proudly bring them up to visiotrs to show them off!

Sorry, no advice regarding the phantom, but my sympaties as I know it worried my sister to see her dog getting all broody over soft toys.
