Hi all
I just found the Tuffies chew proof bed, and now want to buy one plus a crate to put it in, but it only comes in one size, 107cm by 90cm - anyone know of a crate that large please?
Have you any recommendations for good quality dog crates too please, even if they aren't that large. My current one is broken and rusty and is only about 3 or 4 years old!
Thanks
Alex
There's no shortcut to experience.
Even if you find the right dimensions you may still find it difficult to fit that rigid bed through the door! You may need to get one made with a wider door or an opening lid...
Another alternative might be to put the bed in a 'pen' rather than a crate?
Hamster Baskets is a company that gets recommended quite a lot and may be worth a look
Alternatively perhaps someone on here could recommended a non chewable mat for the crate? I use a wipe clean tuffie (110 x 68 cm) in my 42" crate but I don't have experience of a chewer. Tuffies will make this type of bed to size so if you get a tight fitting one then your dogs
shouldn't be able to pick up any part of it to chew but it may depend how persistent your woofer is...

Thanks Dawn R, Croft do do some that are big enough - although the prices are a bit eye-watering! Hopefully they are well made though...
Hi dogs a babe,
Thanks for your reply. That Hamster baskets website looks great, have bookmarked it, thanks. I may ask them for a quote for a made to measure crate/pen.
I would love to hear about any other chewproof beds, I like that the Tuffies one says it is guaranteed chew proof, my dog has chewed so much vet bed etc over the years, it's costing me a fortune! I also worry he might swallow some of it. I have tried stuffed kongs and long-lasting juma type bones etc but he seems to prefer to chew his bedding

Cheers
Alex

I find mine always prefer vet bed they dont chew much else
I tried towels and old jumpers too, he likes chewing those as well

Have you looked on ebay ?
http://www.doghealth.co.uk/puppy.htmThe K700 seems to be about the size you want, didn't look at price tho. I have two of their standard 3 door crates in the house and they seem like they will last forever.
I have a hampster basket crate in the car but would not use one in the house as it is fairly ligght weight and only has wire spring things holding the sides together, its fine in car as it fills the space and can't move anywhere.

Can reccommend the dog health ones, I have 2 x 42 and a 48 one.
The galvenised - hammerite versions 3 doors.
They are cheaper if you purchase via ebay too gwdavies28 I think is the username.
Here's the link to their store on ebay.
http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/doghealth-stocknutrition__W0QQ_armrsZ1and you can purchase replacement trays too.
The plus = very strong, good quality cages
The negatives = Very heavy if you need to move the bigger cages around when collapsed.
Not so bad sliding around on carpet if you have the room to move them around when up
Tryestorme will make to measure. on the web
Yes we have 4 of these! a small one for when they were pups the larger ones for the back of the truck and the cocker and a humungeous one for Jake a big BC that can lay full out with his legs not touching the sides. We stack two at the moment in our small flat so Whistler has top bunk.
All holidays we take one crate with us as Whistler will not sleep out of his crate - bit of a squash on a narrow boat but we manage.
We use vet bed in ours plus (wait for it) I was chucking out two turquoise blue silk cushios and Oh gave them 1 each and they sleep with their heads on a pillow - gawd luv us I thought I was soft!!
They are quite sturdy with a sheet of ply ontop. Both side and front opening.
As they now sleep in the room next door we get a "woof" at 7:30pm just in case we thought a lie in or rumpy pumpy was on offer - it isnt!
Thanks for the replies, I have bookmarked the Ebay shop and Tryestorme as well

Hubby is now saying we should section off a corner of the utility room with two galvanised pen panels to give him a 6' by 4' pen instead of a crate as it will be cheaper and larger, but I am not too sure what's best.
Whistler I am impressed that you manage a crate in a narrow boat - we did a narrowboat hol last year and brought Jake's crate but there was no room to put it up!
We had it in the "lounge" and he went into it good as gold. Night one he howled and we ened up with us a BC and cocker in a somewhat small bed!! night two Jake slept on his bed and Whistler was in his crate - perfect peace. They both had life jackets and we were trolling along and I caught a glimpse of something orange Whis had jumped off (unseen) and was hareing up the tow path! from then on he was on a long lead on top of the boat sitting in the life belt.
Jake fell in once (BC) so was too scared to jump off. We have done three with the dogs so far fantastic fun so slow and peaceful would go again tomorrow.
This years its Sandy Balls with dogs and Centreparc, due to housebuilding. OH is off walking in Woolacombe with his Dad & dog in May (MIL died last April) so they are looking forward to all male bonding whilst Whis (another male) and I hog the sofa and remote control for a week.
Lol, one of ours had a lifejacket (little Louis) and Jake did jump off the boat once and run off, they seemed to really enjoy the holiday though, all that outdoorsy fresh air and towpath walks. They seemed to like looking at the ducks but didn't jump in luckily even though they love swimming.
Hope you enjoy this year's holidays - we haven't any planned as we are building an extension instead!
Yes we are on long weekends and then an odd week apart so we can oversee the re-build. We are in a small flat with our two dogs their crates take up the spare room!!
