My daughters staffie had surgery last Tuesday for mammory tumours. She was, as expected, very sore and uncomfortable in the first few days, not even able to get up from a sitting position without help. She was taken back to the vets to be checked and given more pain medication a few days after the surgery. She is now able stand without help and until today has been able to wee and poo. Over the weekend her back legs and vulva have swollen quite considerably and although she is still weeing she is having trouble stooping to poo. She has not been eating very much and this morning was sick.  My daughter took her back to the vets today and she has been given more antibiotics and has to go back on Wednesday. The vet did not shed any light on why this was happening and said this wasn't a normal reaction to this surgery, although she did say it may be a reaction to the internal stitches. Before surgery a blood test revealed that there may be some problems with her kidneys and my daughter is worried that this swelling is related to that. Wondered if anyone has any experience of this happening and what it was related to.

sorry no experience but just wanted to say, hope your girl gets back to her normal self soon.
also if your vet isn't answering all the questions you have then keep asking, maybe they could ask another vet in the practise why these things are happening. don't forget your paying for their time so they should make an effort to answer your concerns.

second opinion and dont delay...

The swelling sounds like an infection to me.

Despite lots of visits to the vet, different meds and lots of love and care Lucy didn't recover after her surgery and was put to sleep this morning. My daughter has taken it hard as she truly believed Lucy would get better. Lucy was a dog in a million and will be missed by the whole family

So sorry.  That's not what you expect after routine surgery.  Poor soul.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I would want some explaination from the vet why this has happened. You are paying for private medical care.

I do hope that you will be able to speak to a senior partner at the vet practise and get some questions answered.
