hi, ive just had my re scan and our girl is NOT pregnant and was just wandering how many times do people try to get there girls in whelp before accepting that its not going to happen. many thanks

alib im sorry to read your girl isn't pregnant.  Its very disappointing, we had a failed Ai mating and a subsequent season when she didnt ovulate enough so I know how you are feeling.  :-(

Did you have your girl blood tested during her season to see when she was most fertile?

no we didnt do bloods but  we wll next time

Yes that might be a good thing to do.  My bitches last season, she was tested every 2 days from day 10 but she never ovulated enough.  Hopefully if you get her tested, you can pick exactly the right time when she will be ready.

Maybe she ovulated at the beginning of her season rather than in the middle or at the end.

thanks do you use your vet to test?
By Justine (**) [gb] Date 24.02.10 19:56 GMT
Yes i got my vet to test her last time but alot of people on here use the Idexx.  If you have a mooch, there are quite a few threads about them.

When we tested her for the Ai, with that season she ovulated on day 19, so she was quite late.   Your girl could be the same.  The Vet that did the Ai, said its not uncommon for maiden bitches to ovulate late in the season.

Fingers crossed you will have success next time! Who'd be a woman eh! ;-)

I mated a bitch first time ...she missed,
tried a different dog, did bloods........she missed. The dog was then exported !!!
Tried yet another dog - took her early ...day 7 and left her to be mated over a period and she concieved on (probably) the 9th day.....difficult to say but she whelped very early and this ruled out the earlier days.
She was mated on day 9 next time and whelped normally.

my girl was mated day 8 until the stud wasnt intersted in her at day 13!

One of my girls is determined to stay 'intact'! She flags her tail & stands for the Dog, but then promptly parks her bum on the floor! She will be 4 this year, & if we don't get a mating this year, we'll give up. Seasons are usually every 9 months, but she's slightly over that, so just watching & waiting now.

Do  you mean, how many matings or how many seasons you attempt at?

I'm thinking you mean the latter? Difficult one but its hard just to give up if you have a really nice bitch. Maybe 4 times? If you have tried different dogs/ every antibiotic known to man/CHV etc and still drawn a blank, maybe its time to stop and think. Maybe you are faced with blocked fallopian tubes or adverse uterine wall conditions.

Still hard to give up though :-) Fluke litters do happen. Best if you had your own stud dog who suited her well.

We do have our own dog that suits our females, only trouble is he has the same sire as 1 of them and he is the sire of the other grr!

with my only breeding girl at the moment, her 2 litters she had only had one day of visiting the dog, the first litter ( who are 4 years old today!) we just had one single mating, she had 5 puppies, the second time, same dog, she mated twice on the same day, this time we had 6 puppies,

i mated my other girls once. with my golden, she had 10 pups, and twice with my bc, she had 6, i normally have an ovulation test done before hand, i have a mate tel as well but i only use that as a guide when to test. this time i took a chance went on the matetel and my girls reactions to the dog! the only day she was happy to let him ( i used a more local dog this time so i took her to see what she thought!) and it was spot on day 12, the only day she has ever stood before.

different dogs, different times, some people mate their dogs every season and never have a litter, sometimes i think it just isnt meant to be.
