hi we have an alaskan malamute puppy who is now 10 weeks old. we got her 3 weeks ago and since then she has had diarrhea on and off, some days she's firm, majority of the time she's soft but sometimes she's really loose. we havn't changed her food and is being fed james wellbeloved puppy without any meat mixed in and she's drinking plenty. she's a lively, happy, playful pup, and full of energy. at her 1st injection the vet said she's  in top condition. i've since spoken to a lady who works at jolleys pet food store and she told me that malamutes are prone to sensitive stomaches but i havn't heard this before, just wondered if anyone might be able to give me some advice and if this is normal for this breed. thanks.

I don't have any specific advice as such but simply to say: can you ask her breeder?

Good breeders will likely have a lot of helpful advice to give you.  If this is the food they recommend then they'd also be able to reassure you about frequency and timing of meals as well as the amounts you should be feeding.  Incidentally, do you weigh her food?  I used to find that just a few grammes difference can affect the output!

Did your breeder keep a pup this time?  Mine did, so we had real and current information to compare.  My breeder also put her litter owners in touch and we used to email each other to check news and stories (3 years later we still do :-) )  It was really helpful to hear what others had experienced, what weight gains we could expect and how the house training was going!

Hope you get it sorted, or get the reassurance you need :-)

thanks for that advice,
the breeder did keep a pup so i think i'll give her a ring and ask how she's getting along with her pup and ask her opinion on the issue .

If she's had the runs on and off for 3 weeks, I would be taking her to the vet.

I had a very similar issue with my puppy, then 13 weeks, wo suddenly seemed to develop intermittent problems with his dry food diet--the same one the breeder had had him on. I weaned him onto another food for a few weeks at 15 weeks, then gradually weaned him back at about 24--and now he is completely fine. It could have been about quantities he was getting, but he got the same every day, so that didn't really explain it for me. The vet saw him during this time and didn't have any answers either since he was wormed, looked absolutely well and was dirinking, playing, etc.

Good luck with her and hope someone comes along who is knowledgeable aboput your breed...
OK, so the cream carpets were a bad idea

If the worming is up to date and she is not grazing on plants outside in the garden that could be be irritant, then are you perhaps over feeding,a s this is often a cause of looseness.

A puppy no longer in the litter often needs a bit less food with the competition gone, and some have eyes bigger than their bellies.
