...and yes the KC really have called it 'Woof , He's fit " !!!

sounds like a useful tool although I do wonder how much it will be used - what looks good on the computer may well turn out to be disasterous 'in the flesh ' !!

!!!!! Yes, of course health considerations are extremely important, but surely not worth anything without taking other compatible factors into consideration, which cannot be shown on a database!  How about temperament, knowledge of any  problems a generation or 2 back in the pedigree, breed type, suitabililty of type for a particular bitch etc, etc - unless a whole lot of info has been left out of the Press Release this sounds like an expensive disaster.  I do think that having  the "breed valuse" can be a useful tool, but to market this database as a dating service for dogs, and aim it an inexperienced pet breeders as a service to find the perfect mate?

Oh golly that reads badly!  It sounds as though all you need to do is find the nearest health tested dog and there's SO MUCH more to finding the right stud dog than that! :-( :-(
Doesn't look like a good move to me at all!  Just trying to placate the politically correct people who know nothing about breeding dogs for health, quality and temperament and will just encourage more pet breeding rather than good breeding.

If it is used as a starting point for those breeders who wouldn't normally look too far outside their local environment it has to be a good thing I would have thought. I have no connection with the breeding of dogs, and will never breed, but have a layman's interest and also the interest of a pet dog owner who would be looking for a well bred, health tested puppy the next time I make an addition to my family and, as such, this would seem to be a good place to check out some lines that I may be interested in.

It may not be everything responsible breeders are looking for but it does pass the message on to the public at large that there is more to getting a puppy than just replying to an advert which again has to be a good thing.

That was my first thoughts to, but, as someone has just pointed out to me, you need to know which dog you are thinking of using before you can look for health testing etc...

It is a usefull tool, in addition to all other research for choosing a stud.. and certainly a step in the right direction from the KC. I dont think it will make any difference to the pet breeders decision whether to breed from their pet or not. This at least gives highlights health testing .. better the dog around the corner with health test, than the one down the road, without..
