We watched "Hachi" the true story of an Akita! Wow! I was so positive I was not going to shead a tear. I was soooo wrong.
Have any of you seen it yet?

Saw the clip the other day and want to go and watch it.  Doesn't look like an Akita to me on the film?
If I wanted a Poodle, OES, TT or IWS I would have bought one. SWD's shd. be natural and rustic. No

Yep! when you see it you will see he is big like my daughters male Akita, nice thik neck. He is a beauty as far as Akita's go. There was one thing I learnt from the film. Akiti's are a one man dog. My daughters is, he loves her, she is his owner, even though he is good with the children. Get the tissues out though, good film. You can download it. You need to watch it at home as the tears drip.

There's a trailer here:

It looks good, but a shame they didn't set it in Japan, as per the original true story.
Acquiring a dog may be the only opportunity a human ever has to choose a relative.

That is what my daughter said, it would have been better in japan.
I think she said there is also a book?

Haven't seen the film - I know it is based on a true story (bit like Greyfriars Bobby) and I've seen the statue of Hachiko outside Shibuya station in Tokyo - I don't think this is the original statue (I think it was melted down during the war and replaced afterwards) - but here is a picture of it :- http://www.japaneselifestyle.com.au/tokyo/shibuya_hachiko_statue.htm
Treat every stressful situation as a dog would. Pee on it and walk away

He deserved the statue, He waited about 9years after his masters death at the station. People sent money to feed him. Heartbreaking.

The dog as a puppy is a shiba isnt it? Then somehow it miraculously by means of hollywood turns into an akita!

Well it depends if he is a proper Japanese version (Akita Inu) or the more Mastiff type Americanised form most of us are more familiar with, which is the Akita in UK or also knows as the American Akita/Great Japanese Dog in FCI countries.
