There's no doubt he's a very accomplished showman, who'd probably be a very good conjuror because his skills at diversion and audience distraction are very well developed.

I know we all adore our dogs and abhor cruelty, but why is it that those that complain the loudest about the bully boy tactics of CM feel that it is acceptable to use those same bully tactics to people with opposing views on this site, to the extent that many are too intimidated to add their opinions to this thread out of concern of aggressive retaliation

Far from putting a dampener on the show, that was actually a compliment to the man! You obviously agree that he's a good showman because you enjoyed the show.

I have not watched CM so cannot possibly pass comment on his training methods.  But pleased for you Terri that you had an enjoyable time watching CM, and I think that Roxylady has a good point.  

Those of us that are against the man's training methods are agreeing with the KC, the RSPCA, the Dogs Trust, Wood Green, the BVA, the APBDT etc etc -I think it says quite a lot that all these major organisations are against his methods......... it's not just the views of a few dog breeders on ChampDogs. It's not just a difference of opinion, it's a welfare issue.

It's also possible to train fish with a clicker! As well as horses, cats, and rats as well as zoo animals. I saw someone clicker training a tiger on a zoo programme on TV last week.

Until the law is changed, they can't. Sadly puppy farming is legal.

Agreed, but that is a whole different kettle of (clicker trained?) fish, and another thread.
To add to Marianne's post above - the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons has identified his methods to be cruel.

Yes, I know that they cannot do anything until the law is changed.   Possibly that is where we should be expending our energy, badgering our MP's, badgering the RSPCA, badgering the BVA, badgering the KC etc., for all of them to put every effort that they can into having the law changed.   But it will not happen, as it is too low down on their priorities.  

What I am trying to say is that instead of bickering over one man, who has made television programmes about training dogs (and they would have to be sensational to be watched), and we all know how programmes are sensationalised and edited to draw an audience, our energy should be spent on trying to help dogs reared and bred and kept on puppy farms.   These are also very serious welfare issues that  affect many, many dogs.

I do not think anyone on this thread has nothing but the best interests of their dogs welfare at heart.

Yet when they (in this country and internationally, in this case) do unite and speak out about a welfare issue they get criticised. They can't win, can they?
