I have a litter of 2 pups, 5 weeks old and the dog pup has a small ammount of blood in his stools, it is small I don't mean vast pools but it is there all the same, can anybody shed any light on why this could be please? He is healthy and happy in himself although he is a lot smaller than the bitch.

What are the pups eating? Have you got them on solids?
Life is too short to worry about muddy pawprints.....

Giardia? Have they been wormed with Panacur? As, although it's effective against the parasite, the dosage regime is different.
The hurrier I go - the behinder I get!

worms was my first thought plus are they getting enough fluids as constipation could also cause straining and spotting.
Faithful and true to the last beat of his heart.
Thank you for all your replies. Only the male pup has this problem, they are on solids, JWB puppy, some cooked chicken and fish. I have wormed them with Panacur it is the correct dosage but oddly enough it did start when I wormed him at 5 weeks. He is not constipated and having plenty of fluids. Thanks again for your input, it is helpful to have like minded people to discuss problems with.

Generally caused by over feeding..

Is this reply serious that over feeding causes blood in stools?

Yes of course. Most common reason for blood streaking in puppies. They will eat and eat if you let them. Just small amounts regular is required.
