Can anybody give me any advise to helpme stop one of my dogs barking.  He dosen't jsut bark when someone or something is there he does it all the time if left outside for more than a miniute, he always goes out with my other dogs and they only bark when someone or something is about.

Is he barking to get back to you?
Does he follow you room to room when you are at home?
Does he bark to call you back when you or any children leave the house?
Lots of questions I know but I am wondering if it is seperation anxiety/ resource guarding which can be fixed so don't worry.

No he isen't barking to get back to me, and he dosen't follow me from room to room, when we leave the house he is generally quiet, I'd say it's the resource guarding just don't know how to fix it, so any help would be appreciated.

I was thinking along the lines of you being the resource he was guarding but usually other signs would be present as he would be watchful of you all the time and following you to make a cupa or go to the toilet etc but it doesn't sound like he is doing that. If he was I would suggest you get him used to not always being able to access you by closing the door behind you if you ni to the kitchen for a few min or putting him in his crate in the same room as you for short times to stop this.

Will he stop barking if asked to - ie if he can see you near the door? again its a presence question.

Without seeing him and how he interacts with both you and the other dogs it's hard to tell.

Will he lie quietly if you put him out with a stuffed kong or other distractor?

Hopefully some others will offer advice soon - I am heading off to Crufts later today so won't be online much.

I may not have been much help

Yes he stops barking as soon as he sees me don't have to say anything to him. He will lie quietyly if given a distractor and he is not top dog my Jack Russell bitch is. Hope you had a good time at Crufts.
