hi guys

What training bits do you use for your dogs?  I noticed alot of people at crufts were using small kebble type treats and just wondered what everyone uses?

I use chicken or hotdogs at training.

I use cheese, chopped up into very small cubes (about the size of half a peanut) as I know it's something my dog will 'stand on his head' for :-) If I really want to get the edge for luring him I'll use cooked chicken.
So standard training = cheese
Extra special training treat = chicken

Livercake, cheese, ham, cocktail sausage, chicken, owt really, I'm lucky, my boys are gluttens and will do anything for even a piece of kibble

I use kibble treats and also sometimes hotdog sausages or cheese.

Percentage of the dog's dinner, Edam cheese is good 'cause it's squidgy so doesn't crumble, liver bread, tuna bread, boiled liver hardened off in the oven (yummy, so say the dogs, specially if you splosh the boiled water on their din dins), cooked chicken, hot dog sausages, Fish4dogs all stars, Barker & Barker little liver training treats and veggie treats (latter quite big and white so good if chucking on the floor). The possibilities are endless!
Just make sure that on days of heavy treat use, you reduce the dinner intake accordingly, otherwise you end up with well trained but very fat dog ;-)
If you do have a dog that is prone to weight gain, boiled venison is very good ... yes, my dogs eat far better than I do.
Some of us are lucky, I have one dog who will do ANYTHING for carrot ... sadly she's not the one prone to weight gain :-(

Whatever works!!

I'm not being facetious but my boy seems to change his mind quite often, and what worked yesterday might not get the same reaction tomorrow :-)

On that basis I rotate my selection from liver cake, through bits of kibble, to packet ham.  However, I have to be careful in the ring.  If I choose something too exciting he'll bark at me every time he thinks he did something impressive but if it's too boring he'll spit it out.

Oh well - it keeps me on my toes!  My main crieria is that it needs to be reasonably handy to shove in my pocket and relatively dry to handle.

I tend to ring the changes a bit depending on what I have to hand at the time.  A fellow CD'er told me once that they use squeezy cheese in a tube - can't remember what it is called now and that is brilliant as it's easy carried and can be given in tiny amounts licked straight from the tube :-)

I've often used Primula cheese tubes for treats ... works very well for target training!
