Beattie went to sleep cuddled on my lap yesterday evening. Although she still loved her food and wanted to come for walks, her legs had started giving way underneath her, and each good day meant 4 bad days to recover. Whether the time was right I'll never know, but after a really bad turn last night there was a look of bewilderment in her eyes yesterday that hadn't been there before, so we went with the principle of "better a week too early than a day too late" and very reluctantly let her go from us.

For such a quiet, unassuming girl she's left the most enormous void in my life. Sleep well my dear girl. I'm so very sorry.

The hardest thing we ever have to do, is give a helping hand to those we love dearly.

Good night Beattie, rest peacefully

Sleep well Beattie.  You know you did the right thing. Its a very brave thing we all have to do. Put aside our own selfish wishes to have them with us longer than they can comfortably cope with. If you could hear her now, she would be saying 'thank you mom'.

I am so sorry Jan, but as always you put your feelings aside and put her first, that is the true sign of a fabulous mum and beattie will thank you for that. I agree wholeheartedly with the 'Better a week too soon, than a day too late, you knew her inside out and i have no doubt your decision was the right one, as always.

Thinking of you at what i know all too well is a very tough time.

She was beautiful

I'm sorry to resurrect an old post, but I had no idea Beattie had gone. Jan I am so very sorry you had to let your beautiful regal old lady go, and as always you will have made absolutely the right decision for her. Run free Beattie. Hugs.

By Jeangenie (*****) [gb] Date 17.04.10 12:16 GMT
Thank you. We still miss her badly - who'd have thought such a quiet, unobtrusive dog would leave such an enormous echoing space? Poor Piglet still keeps looking for them both - it's been very traumatic for him too, poor boy.
