i have a 6 month old pomeranian puppy i have just discovered has an undershot jaw( when the bottom teeth go out further than the top ones) i paid a lot of money for her and bought her as a show dog. could this  right itself as she gets older. she will also be having some baby teeth out next week. does anyone have any knowledge with pomeranians..thanks

How old was she when you bought her, and what were her teeth like then?

hi there  she was 10 weeks old when i got her. i am shamed to say i did not check her teeth as she came from such a reputable,good breeder who new i wanted to show her so i trusted her not to sell me something that would be such a bad fault in the ring. she had a good coat and good movement but thats all i checked. i told her about her mouth but she just said theres not much she could do about it.

To be honest if the teeth are fine as a baby puppy you take your chance that they will be fine when the adult ones come in.

If you say she still has baby teeth then the dentition is yet not certain, but it is always a risk that a pups mouth will go.

The only way of being sure to get a show dog, rather than a show prospect is to buy the finished article, which needless to say will not usually be for sale.

It is the reason most breeders will sell a puppy as promising/show prospect, but primarily as a companion first and foremost.

Even if the dog was perfection itself, it may not like showing, or an injury stop it from attaining it's promise.  Same with breeding, you can't guarantee an animal will be fertile, a good mother/stud or a producer.

Barbara is right, we imported a female a few years ago, she was very promising, she got hit by a car at a show (long story) after this she never wanted to be shown again, thankfully she produced a champion daughter for us, and was a super mother, (she is retired from maternal duties now) we also have 2 more daughters from her.

I wouldn't have thought it would right itself.  They say the bottom jaw is the last bit to grow. If she were slightly overshot maybe you  would hve a chance with the bottom jaw catching up but if its already undershot, I think thats pretty much it.

How old is she now? there is something you can try, which might help if she's not too old. if you want to pm me i can give you my email address and will help all i can.
