Hi, my cavie has just been for her annual booster and the vet found a murmur.  She is 5 years and 4 months old, i am going to get her scanned next week, anyone have any experience with this?  What do you think her chances are, if it is MVD.   She is not heavy and is still active out everyday for walks etc.

What grade was it? That makes a big difference. :-) My Cavalier went from no murmur to a grade 6 (=the max) within a few months when he was 7 years old. The vet said he would not live to see Christmas that year. Well Rufus turned 15 in February!! He passed his Good Citizen Gold when he was 9. Personally I wouldn't bother with a scan, unless you're a breeder and has bred from this dog, it won't make any difference, will just cost you money and add stress to the dog. I think you can fairly safely assume it is MVD.
Marianne. Dogs are not our whole lives, there are cats too!

my Cav had a severe (vets words) heart murmur, I do not know the grade and didn't have a scan as we decided to do everything she needed with regards to medication and TLC and take each day as it came. She led a normal happy life, running like a loony with the other dogs and lived to 12 years old, and only had regular meds as she reached about 10

It is only grade 2 at the moment, sounds like she may go on for some time then.  Many thanks that has cheered me up as she is my sons fav dog.  We have not bread from her as she got pyo at just 2 years old.  She is spayed and a nice weight so we shall just keep doing what we do, lots of love and nice walks out with her other doggie family.
