my bitch was due first mating yesterday, second mating today. its her first litter
her normal temp is 37.7 in the mornings it is at 36.4 then by lunch at 37 and dinner 37.5-37.7.
she has not done any nesting, no digging, is still happily eating, she will be shivering and then panting but thats all.
i found out about a week ago that her mother never had contractions for her first litter.
should i be worried and book her in for c-section or give it another night?

Shivering and panting is a sign of labour, normally the shivering starts not long before first pup arriving, if you have any worries I would pop her along to your vet just to be on the safe side, especially as mum suffered the same symptoms.
Good luck.
Life is too short to worry about muddy pawprints.....
shivering and panting has been going on for about 24 hours now. i havent seen any water break or plug yet

In my experience inertia does seem to be genetic. I only ever made the mistake once of keeping a bitch puppy out of a bitch that had inertia. She suffered same as mum.
I now put endorsements on all pups born from bitches with trouble whelping, and sell them as pets. I would never again keep a bitch that didn't come from self whelping lines. I would get your girl to a vet if it was me, she will be worn out otherwise.
The hurrier I go - the behinder I get!
does inertia happen every litter that a bitch has?. my girls mother had no contractions and c section but had 2 more litters naturally after that apparently.
she is starting now, nesting panting heavily, loks like it will be a long night still though

Hope things are going ok with your girl
"How many"?!
she is sleeping at the moment, very long slow night by the looks of it

Well I hope everything goes ok. I'd not even heard of inertia! My girl gave birth Saturday morning, that was very straightforward but am still recovering from lack of sleep, so I know how you must be feeling.
Keep us posted and good luck

I'm going through the same thing, we got panting and digging but no contractions and she is now having a C section as it's 2 days after 2nd due date. Hope it doesn't come to that with your girl!

we went through the same thing 2 wks ago but thankfully ours didnt end up with a c section the injection worked and she had her pups with in the 2 hrs vet give her . so we have decided on getting her spayed wouldnt put her through this again hope all goes well for you and your girl .

Go girl!
Acquiring a dog may be the only opportunity a human ever has to choose a relative.

Fantastic...congratulations x

Congratulations!!

I'm so pleased for your, I was getting quite worried ... I felt especially guilty 'cause my girl had such an easy birth. Now let the time wasting begin, puppies are the biggest time wasters ... I know, it's 1.10pm and I've had my breakfast, oh and put the bin out. They're the only useful things I've done all day, and the other dogs are starting to comment about it!! Congratulations
